Local Notes: Finalists of Ireland's Fittest Family visit Crossmolina.
Excitement filled the air in Crossmolina as the McDonagh family, from Geesala, proud finalists on the popular RTÉ series Ireland’s Fittest Family, visited Hiney’s Londis where they were warmly welcomed by store owners Enda and Carmel Hiney. A very informative meeting on the topic, "Independent Living", was held in Ardagh Community Centre last week. Hosted by Ardagh Social Services the meeting was very well attended with its main focus on the availability of various supports which are in place for people aged sixty-five and over who wish to continue to live in their homes with dignity and independence for as long as possible. The supports include advice on housing, health, finance, community, technology and climate/energy. Sinead Reinhardt, a co-ordinator from Healthy Age Friendly Homes, gave a very comprehensive talk on various grants which are available and outlined the very positive benefits that are associated with independent living. Gardai attached to the Mayo North Community Engagement area will host property marking events this coming Saturday, February 14, at Ardagh GAA grounds between 10am-12 noon and at Moygownagh Community Centre between 1pm and 3pm. All members of the local farming community are urged to attend and bring along their farm machinery/equipment plus their eircodes to either event.
Ardagh Community Players will present ‘The Sorcerer's Tale’ in Ardagh Community Centre from Friday, February 20 to Sunday 22 inclusive. Curtains up at 8pm and admission on the door.
Congratulations to the young girls and boys from Ardagh and Knockanillo national schools who participated in a very entertaining exhibition game against their Dublin counterparts during half-time of the national football league encounter between Mayo and Dublin in MacHale Park, Castlebar, last week.

€279.85 was raised in Knockmore and €132.30 in Rathduff at the recently held church gate collection for the Rise and Shine Charity that brings young people with additional needs to Lourdes.

The death took place recently of Patricia Herbert of Tooreen, Killala and London. Her remains reposed at Lynns Funeral Home Killala and were buried in Rathfran cemetery after 11am Mass on Saturday, January 24.
