Ballyglass RNLI News

Well done to Ryan Geraghty, Belmullet, who has successfully completed his inshore lifeboat (ILB) helm pass out recently.

Ryan has put an immense amount of work in over the past two years. He will be a great asset to Ballyglass lifeboat station and everyone there is delighted with him achieving his role as ILB helm!

The pass out involved a two-hour practical exercise afloat covering emergency procedures, search and rescue, anchoring and boat handling, as well as a one and half hour theory exam, covering IRPCS (international rules at sea) and policies and procedures. The pass out was carried out by RNLI assessor trainer Alan Pryce.

Congratulations Ryan and well done! Another great man at the helm of Ballyglass RNLI, your charity committed to saving lives at sea.

Boxing News

Golden Gloves Boxing Club had two boxers in action recently at the Mayo Novice Championships, held at St Anne's Boxing Club Westport.

First up was Sean Monaghan, but things didn't go to plan for Sean and he was beaten by a good Ballyhaunis opponent. However, Sean continues to improve every bout.

Then it was Shane Ivers who had three tough rounds with his Claremorris opponent but he managed to control the fight and came away county champion after a unanimous decision.

Well done to both lads.

Thanks as always to St Anne's Boxing Club and Mayo Boxing Board.

Golden Gloves Boxing Club was in action recently at the annual Geesala boxing tournament held in Glenamoy Hall.

First up was Casey Coyle who fought a tough Geesala opponent in an exhibition and both girls displayed excellent skills and determination.

Next we had Shane Ivers who fought a gutsy opponent from Ardagh-Crossmolina Boxing Club. Shane displayed some excellent boxing skills and showed great character within the ring and deservedly got his hand raised at the end of the bout.

Well done to Casey and Shane.

Thanks to Geesala Boxing Club and Mayo Boxing Board for putting on a great event.

Golden Gloves were in action also recently at the Ballina Boxing Club tournament. Chloe Coyle got a great start to her season after a good win over Aglish Boxing Club's Emma Rattigan.

Well done to both girls and thanks to Ballina Boxing Club for a great show.

Erris United News

Katie Keane takes the lead in the Sports Genus with two events to go. As excitement levels reach fever pitch, all eyes turn to the two most boring sports in the world, Baseball and Formula One. Anyone in the top twenty could still win and there is €500 to the champion. The bases are loaded, the lights are out, and we are off!

Thank you to Platt Reilly and Belbridge Structures for their support.

The club celebrated its 40th anniversary recently and the driving rain on Sunday, October 27th, did not deter the enjoyment on the faces of members of the All-Ireland winning Youth Cup side from 2004 in taking on the present junior side. The years have not dented their skill in playing the game, winning 3-1.

Later that evening, when all had dried off, it was on to the Clann Lir Bar to regale each other of past glories and to view a very enjoyable slid-show of key moments on and off the pitch over the years.

The club also launched the Team of Legends where you get a chance to pick the stand-out players over the past 40 years. This competition is sponsored by Martin McIntyre of the Clann Lir Bar and Linda Conway of the Corner House Bar. Cards are available from both outlets and Carey's Newsagents.

The 11 players with the most votes for each position will be selected on the team. The correct and closest answer to this wins. The winner will be announced at the New Year’s Day game.
