Annual trip to Knock Shrine

Neighbours and friends from Lacken, Killala and Cooneal parishes enjoyed a great day out together at Knock Shrine last Wednesday. Mick Reddington of Reddington Buses assisted by Aine, the tour organiser, travelled around the high roads and byroads of Lacken and on to Killala to collect passengers and deliver them to Knock House Hotel on time for lunch. Then there was free time before Mass at 3.15pm which was celebrated by Fr Michael Harrison PP Killala, Lacken and Cooneal. Fr Michael delivered a beautiful homily at the Gable Chapel recalling the Apparation of 1879 and its significance at that time in Ireland. He also shared his personal memories of visiting the Shrine as a young teen with his parents and the profound effect it had on him. The bus departed Knock at 5pm and Mick returned parishioners back home after a most enjoyable day out. Thank you Mick for going the extra mile and ensuring the safety and comfort of all your passengers. It was another great day for the parish.

Lacken Tractor Run

There was great excitement last Tuesday evening in the Sensory Garden as the first planning meeting for Lacken Tractor Run 2025 got underway. The Zen Den was an appropriate venue as it was constructed from the proceeds of last year’s Tractor Run. A beautifully crafted wooden shelter constructed from the finest of teak wood ensuring durability and resistance to the elements, the Zen Den is finished to a very high spec, with a classic natural slated roof and carefully chosen ornamental ridge tiles.

The team involved can be doubly proud of their achievements in completing this project, as Storm Eowyn caused extensive damage to the shelter in January resulting in it being transported back to the workshop in Foghill to be reconstructed. Now back in its original location in the Sensory Garden, the inside walls are decorated with multisensory wall panels, there is a table and seating lending itself to a quiet place to read or meditate, to picnic and have fun or just to sit and look out and relax in this beautiful location. If you would like to be involved in helping to organise this year’s Tractor Run come along to the next meetings, details will be posted on social media and church bulletin. All support appreciated.
