A Farewell to Hannah

There was a sad but fitting farewell for the late Hannah Schofield at her 11am Requiem Mass celebrated in Christ the King Church, Knockmore, on Sunday morning last. Hannah passed away peacefully but unexpectedly at her residence in Tavanaghmore, Knockmore on Wednesday, September 10.

The large congregation present at her Requiem Mass was evidence of the respect and fondness the community held for Hannah. During the homily Hannah was remembered as a person of great faith, who through her many lives difficulties and trials, always put her trust in the Lord.

In the Eulogy at the end of Mass her daughters Anakana and Clare recalled many memories of their mum and the love and care she showed them always. They took the opportunity to thank most sincerely her beloved cousins and neighbours who were always there to help and support her together with their brother David.

Hannah was born to parents John and Kathleen Gaughan (nee Higgins) in Tavanaghmore and was one of a family of seven. Life wasn't easy with the passing of their dad at 42 years of age leaving the family to support their mum in running the family farm. After secondary school Hannah left to work in the UK where she met her beloved husband John Schofield. Sadly Hannah was to experience more grief with the death of her husband John in 1977 leaving her to care for their family of three.

Following the passing of her mother, Kathleen in 2004 Hannah returned to the family homestead in Tavanaghmore and took on the job of running the family farm. Hannah was enterprising and established a herd of goats, became a member of the local branch of the IFA where she was secretary for some years. Hannah loved her animals extending her enterprise to hens, ducks, etc. An avid reader she was also creative and loved to paint, crochet and was a member of the local Knockmore Crochet Group. She loved to travel to visit her family and grandchildren and also enjoyed music and nights out with neighbours and friends.

Her passing has left her beloved family deeply saddened but with beautiful memories of a brave and courageous mother. Deepest sympathy is extended to her son David, daughters Anakana and Clare, her adored six grandchildren, her last remaining family siblings - her sister Breege and brothers Liam and Paurick, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins and beloved neighbours and friends. May she now rest in peace.

Ardagh.

The late John (JT) Barrett

The death took place recently of John (JT) Barrett, Cloonglasney, Knockanillaun, and formerly of Tullaghan Duff, Geesala. JT was the beloved husband of Catherine and devoted father to John, Grace, Michael, Annette, Maura and David. He will be sadly missed by his wife, daughters, sons, brother Joe and sister-in-law Betty, daughters-in-law Lili, Pauline, Malsiri; sons-in-law John, Damian and Noel, grandchildren, Aoife, Emma, Eoin, Darragh, Clodagh, Fionn, Diarmuid, Niah, Cónal, Leah, Michael, Conor, Asher, Jonah, Caleb and Ava, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Before his retirement JT was a much sought after tiler by profession and was widely known and highly respected amongst his work colleagues. He possessed a warm and very friendly personality and was held in very high esteem by all who knew him which was reflected in the huge attendance at his obsequies at Hiney's Funeral Home, Crossmolina, and at Requiem Mass in the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, Ardagh, followed by his funeral to Leigue cemetery, Ballina. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
