Local notes: Club seeks support for annual fundraiser
The junior football team from Moy Davitts GAA club who overcame Ballina Stephenites 'B' last week to reach the Mayo SFL Division 6 semi-finals.
Moy Davitts is seeking strong support for its sale of Mayo GAA Club Development Draw tickets. This annual county board draw requires that Moy Davitts must sell 50 tickets and return 100% of the sales revenue to Mayo GAA after which 90% of all additional sales revenue generated by the club stays with the club. Therefore it is in the interest of Moy Davitts GAA to sell as many extra tickets as it can because it is one of the club’s most important fundraisers of the year.
All money raised through these ticket sales is re-generated back into the club facilities for the benefit of all club members from Moy Davitts GAA, Moy Davitts LGFA, Dads and Lads and the GAA for All teams.
Development draw tickets cost €100 each and each ticket is entered into six draws where a top prize of €10,000 is on offer in draws one and six and €5,000 in draws 2 to 5, with €1,000 the second prize in ever draw and up to 30 cash prizes up for grabs in every draw.
This year, however, there is also an additional ‘early bird’ draw on Sunday, July 19 in MacHale Park and offers supporters the opportunity to win a fantastic range of prizes while supporting their local club: 1st Centre Parcs Voucher €1,000; 2nd Elverys Voucher €500; 3rd Elverys Voucher €250; 4th Elverys Voucher €250; 5th Elverys Voucher €250.
Moy Davitts would be extremely grateful if club members would purchase a Club Development Draw ticket at https://pay.sumup.com/b2c/QFH3FXKG or by contacting any of the club executive.
Dates have been confirmed for Riverfest 2026, Foxford’s annual summer festival. The event will take place across two days, Friday and Saturday, August 21-22. There has been an excellent response to the committee’s appeal for more organisers, planners, leaders and ideas.
The organisers say there are many bands wishing to play the festival and lots of new ideas for children's activities, plenty of stall holders lining up for and preparations already afoot for another Candles to the Sea.
Lots of helpers will be required on the (more details to follow), not to mention funding also. Donations are being sought and can be made via the iDonate website and searching for Foxford Riverfest 2026. Other fundraising events will include a bucket collection and a pub quiz.
Water levels on the River Moy have been rising and falling by the day on account of the very changeable weather that brought more cold winds and heavy rain last week. In spite of this, Foxford Salmon Anglers could report 24 salmon as caught for the week ending June 14. A few more grilse are starting to show and many fish have been seen running straight through. Worm, spinning and prawn, when the water cleared, all took fish. Last week’s spring tides were awaited with anticipation.
The baptism has taken place at St Michael’s Church, Foxford of Saidbh Neary, daughter of Jennifer and Andy, Belgarrow, Foxford. Congratulations to all concerned.
The Fr Peyton Memorial Centre in Attymass is to lead a ‘Rosary on the Reek’ next Saturday, June 27. Participants are asked to gather at the Grotto in the car park in Murrisk at 9.45am to begin the climb of Croagh Patrick at 10am. Rosary and Mass at the summit will be at 12noon.
Well done to Foxford man Lorcan Murray who was crowned overall men’s winner of the Mayo AC 5k Summer Series. His prize was presented by Aidan Beirne on behalf of EBS who were sponsors of the five-race series which saw races held in Castlebar, Claremorris, Westport, Ballinrobe and Manulla.
There was a significant win for Moy Davitts ‘B’ as they travelled to James Stephens Park and got the better of home side Ballina Stephenites ‘B’ by four points, 4-12 to 1-17, to reach the semi-finals of Mayo SFL Division 6. The team was scheduled to host Hollymount-Carramore ‘B’ in the semi-final last Sunday afternoon.
The most recent winner of the S&F United 50-50 draw was Dymphna McHale, Foxford, who collected a prize of €100. Tickets are available in all the usual outlets and at smartlotto.ie.
The U17 ‘B’ team rounded off their season in fine style last week when beating a visiting Westport United side in Division 4A of the Mayo U17 Boys Football League. It finished 7-3 in favour of the home side at Green Road with two goals apiece by Dara Gaughan and Leo Levarde and one each by Patrick O’Hara, Yarik Yaroslav and Joseph Elstone.
There was also a great result for the U13 boys in their home game against Castlebar Town last week, as they ran out 8-1 winners. Ferdia McGreal and Conor Ruddy struck a hattrick each while Oisin McHale fired in the other two goals.
There was less fortune for S&F United in the Mayo U11 Boys Shield semi-final however, as they lost out by the only goal of the game – and on a place in the final – to neighbouring Ballyvary Blue Bombers.
