Local Notes: Ballintubber GAA pay tribute to late James McNeive

Pat Barrett, Cathaoirleach of Ballintubber CLG, made a presentation to Aughamore GAA Club and the McNeive family in memory of the late James McNeive at the recent Mayo Senior Championship game between Ballintubber and Aughamore.
The Ray Prendergast Memorial Park at Clogher is the venue on Sunday next for what should be a dinger of an encounter as near neighbours and ancient rivals Ballintubber and Breaffy lock horns.
Ballintubber have had the proverbial “curate’s egg” type season, with patchy excellence (Garrymore victory) and poor performance (Moy Davits loss) in the 2024 league. Still, Ballintubber showed great resilience to claw back a six-point deficit and glean a draw against Aughamore in the first round.
Breaffy also have started the 2024 season pretty poorly but have been recently rejuvenated by a change in management and they will field at Clogher on Sunday without fear or trepidation. How both teams approach this immense challenge will remain a mystery until after 2.30pm on Sunday next, but whoever gets reliability in their team selection and is able to exercise proper tactical nous on the day will surely win out. Only a fool would try to predict which team will!
Roll on Sunday!
At last week’s senior championship match, the Ballintubber club made a presentation to Aughamore GAA Club and the McNeive family in memory of James McNeive, who passed away recently. A minute's silence was observed in his memory before the game.

While Championship football is never easy or predictable, the home team will hopefully emerge victorious and advance. Good luck to the team and management.

Minister of State Alan Dillon will officially open the new Balla Sensory Biodiversity Park at the Fairgreen on Saturday next, August 31st, at 3pm. Fr Brendan Kilcoyne will then bless the facility. Refreshments will also be served in the Community Centre.
Sensory parks or gardens offer great visual stimulation and are designed to stimulate all five human senses - sight, smell, sound, taste and touch.
A sensory garden can be used in the education of special-needs students, including people with autism. As a form of horticultural therapy, sensory gardens also may be helpful in the care of people with dementia. The gardens invite visitors to view plants close-up, to reach out and touch, to inhale fragrances, to listen, and to actively experience the garden with all their senses.
