Local Notes: Ballinrobe Musical Society nominated for two AIMS awards.

Ballinrobe Musical Society has been honoured with two AIMS nominations for their 2025 production of ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’. The society was nominated for Best Chorus, while Sarah Corcoran, who played Esmerelda, was nominated for Best Female Singer. The winners of each award will be announced at the annual AIMS awards ceremony at the INEC in Killarney on Saturday, June 14.
The annual general meeting of the Ballinrobe Agricultural Show will take place in the Parish Centre, Ballinrobe, on Wednesday, May 28, at 8.30pm. New members are welcome.

Ballinrobe Golf Club will celebrate its 130-year anniversary on Monday, June 2. Events taking place on the day include a team scramble, prizes, barbeque, music, and exhibits. Further details and information will be available on the club’s Facebook page nearer the date.
Pendant alarms for older people are available by contacting the Tacú Family Resource Centre at 094 9542908. The alarms are connected to a contact centre to enable older people of 65 or older, to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.
Meals on Wheels are hot meals delivered to individuals at home (either on a temporary or long term basis). Meals on wheels can make your life easier. Deliveries take place on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s, and consist of soup, main meal and dessert. Those wishing to avail of two meals on Monday’s and Thursday’s can do so by notifying the Tacú Centre. This service covers Ballinrobe and the Lake District area. There was no winner of the €9,700 lotto jackpot draw which took place on Wednesday, May 21. The numbers drawn were 8, 26, 30 and 31. The next draw will take place on Wednesday (tomorrow), May 28, for a jackpot of €9,800. Your support for this weekly lotto draw will be appreciated.
The young historians of 1C and 1D completed local history maps, which feature key historical features associated with Ballinrobe Town. The students visited the local history hotspots over the last few weeks, as well as enjoying the lovely sunshine. Ballinrobe Community School thank all involved in Historical Ballinrobe for their assistance.
There was no winner of the €27,000 lotto jackpot draw which was held on Monday, May 19. The numbers drawn were 18, 20, 25 and 30. The match three (€100) winners were Gerry Moran, and J.V. Cummins.
An entertaining South Mayo O’Mara Cup semi-final unfolded at Flanagan Park, on Tuesday, May 20, as Ballinrobe hosted Claremorris. The first half saw plenty of scoring chances created, with the visitors leading 2-9 to 2-3 at the half-time break. Ballinrobe did their utmost to find a way back into the game during the second half, however, a resolute Claremorris prevailed in the end winning on a score-line of 2-16 to 3-7.
Kevin Staunton was the winner of €435 in the weekly 50/50 draw which took place on Sunday week last.
Ballinrobe Rugby Club held their dinner and presentation night in the Lodge Ashford, on Saturday, May 10. The award winners were as follows: Women’s Player of the Year Ann Marie Herward; Women’s Young Player of the Year Aoibhín Holleran; Women’s Player of the Year Dara Whelan; Coach of the Year Eimear Flannery; Hall of Fame Peter McHugh; Club Person of the Year Seamus O’Toole; Men’s Player of the Year Tom Staunton; Men’s Young Player of the Year Liam Lynch; Men’s Player of the Year Dylan Keane. The special guest on the night was former Irish international and Ballina native Gavin Duffy. The MC was Ray McHugh. Overall, it was a memorable and enjoyable night was had by all.
Hollymount LGFA is delighted to announce that a special event will take place to celebrate its 40th Anniversary, on October 4, 2025. The Ballinrobe Town U14 girls’ team recorded an impressive 4-0 victory against Kilmurry, at The Green, on Thursday, May 15. Ballinrobe played some neat attacking football during the opening stages of the contest and the hosts mustered a two-goal cushion courtesy of Ruby May, and Lorna Burke. Ellen Masterson guided home a penalty for Ballinrobe and added the fourth goal for her teammates, to help round off what was a superb team performance. Well done to all involved.

The Tacú Family Resource Centre thank everyone who attended Mayo Africa Day in Ballinrobe Racecourse, on Saturday, May 17. The event was a great success and an enjoyable day was had by all.

Find out more at the launch of a new Children’s Books of Mayo Map and a display of children’s artworks called ‘Islands of Imagination’, at the National Museum of Ireland, Turlough Park, Castlebar. Local artist Melanie Whelan was commissioned to design and illustrate the map and worked with children across Mayo to create the ‘Islands of Imagination’ artworks. The official launch of the map and artworks takes place at 2pm on Saturday, June 7, in the main exhibition galleries. No booking required.
Ballinrobe Town AFC is delighted to announce that their UEFA Playmakers Group will commence over the next couple of weeks. This is aimed at girls aged 4-8 and is an introduction to football using Disney stories. The event takes place in two four week blocks and is completely free and is a great way for children to have fun and learn about football.
