The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Tickets for Ballinrobe Musical Society’s production of ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ are on sale now. The link to purchase tickets is available on the society’s Facebook and Instagram pages. Tickets can also be bought by calling into the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, Ballinrobe. Alternatively you can book tickets by phoning the Tacú Centre at 094 9542908 or 094 9542907.

Inspired by the Victor Hugo novel and much-loved Disney film, ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ is a dramatic, chorus-driven show that will appeal to audiences of all ages.

The ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame’ takes place in Ballinrobe Community School from Sunday, February 16 to Saturday, February 22. Sunday’s show will take place at 5pm, with Monday to Saturday’s shows running nightly at 8pm.

Gambling addiction information event

A gambling addiction information event will take place on Thursday, February 13, from 11am to 1pm in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, Ballinrobe. The guest speaker on the day is Tony O’Reilly, who is a gambling addiction counsellor. This meeting will help advocate for more awareness, education and support for those affected by gambling. Walking Group

A newly formed walking group will meet every Friday (commenced January 31) beside the clubhouse at The Green, at 11am. This group is for all ages and abilities, and will be a great way to enjoy the fresh air, have a chat, and to stay healthy. There will be tea and coffee afterwards in the Tacú Family Resource Centre. Humanitarian Assistance Scheme

Forms for the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme are available in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe. This scheme provides income tested financial assistance to households affected by the recent Storm Éowyn weather event. Help will also be provided to people completing forms.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels are hot meals delivered to individuals at home (either on a temporary or long term basis). Meals on Wheels can make your life easier. Deliveries take place on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s, and consist of soup, main meal and dessert. Those wishing to avail of two meals on Monday’s and Thursday’s can do so by notifying the Tacú Centre. This service covers Ballinrobe and the Lake District area. Those interested or who require further details and information, are asked to contact the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, Ballinrobe, at 094 9542908.

The Ballinrobe Active Retirement Association will hold its AGM on Monday, February 17, at 11am in the Parish Centre, Ballinrobe. New members are welcome.

Ballinrobe Town AFC

Ballinrobe Town will face a difficult away assignment in their opening Super League fixture of the season next weekend, when the Robesiders face Ballina Town, at Belleek Park. Chris McGauley’s troops will have their first home Super League fixture of the new season the following weekend, when newly promoted Glenhest Rovers visit The Green.

Ballinrobe GAA Club lotto draw

There was no winner of the €25,500 lotto jackpot draw which was held in John O’Hare’s Bar, on Monday, February 3. The numbers drawn were 14, 20, 23 and 24. The match three winners (€100 each) were Karen Cusack, and The McGreal’s, Creagh Road.

Club Registration 2025

Ballinrobe GAA and LGFA Club registration is now open for 2025. Those wishing to register are advised that all membership details and payment options are available through the ‘Ballinrobe Club App’ which can be downloaded from the Apple or Google play store.

Various membership options are available to suit all members and families. Please note that all playing members are not covered to train or play games under the GAA Injury Benefit Fund until membership has been paid in full. Ballinrobe Rugby Club

On Sunday week last, the junior men’s team recorded a hard-fought 14-10 victory away to Monivea in the Connacht Junior Cup quarter-final. Ballinrobe’s only try of the game arrived early in the first half courtesy of the hard-working James McTigue and the black and white led 8-0 at the break.

The place kicking of Dylan Keane was a crucial aspect of Ballinrobe’s victory and his three penalties over the course of the tie helped edge his team-mates to victory, with the visitors withstanding a late rally from the hosts.

Ballinrobe were scheduled to play Creggs last Sunday in the Connacht Junior Cup semi-final, with the Robesiders having the rare luxury of a provincial semi-final at The Green. A large attendance was anticipated for the aforementioned semi-final.

The club held its weekly 50/50 draw on Sunday, February 2, with Aoife O’Neill the winner of €610. Also, on the same night, the club held its second online special jackpot draw, with Tom Staunton the lucky winner of €1,000.

Garrymore GAA Club lotto draw

There was no winner of the €6,800 lotto jackpot draw which was held in Garrymore, on Sunday, February 2. The numbers drawn were 4, 5, 16 and 28. The €50 winners were Noel Kilroy, The Heath; Kevin Mangan, Cloonaglasha, and Mary Jordan, Seefin.

Community Services

The Community Resource Centre is a hive of activity in the heart of the community. Thursday morning is coffee morning from 10am to 1pm. It’s the place to meet for tea, coffee, freshly baked scones and of course a chat. Just walk in, no booking necessary; Tuesday is dinner for the Active Age and booking is necessary. All are welcome; You can get free computer/smartphone support for beginners. Hot desk spaces with fibre broadband connections suitable for virtual meetings or interviews. Information for the above is available from the staff at 094 93 65987; Mayo Abbey is the starting point for the Local Link Bus service (Booking on 0949005150) which goes to Castlebar daily Tuesday to Saturday (Route 792) and Claremorris every Thursday, collected from your door. Return service is also available. The service is available to all and free to travel pass holders.

Mayo Gaels lotto

The numbers drawn for the lotto which was held on Tuesday, February 4 were 1, 13, 33, and 35. There was no jackpot winner. The €30 consolation prize winners were Marie Deasy, Currykirwan (annual ticket), Derek Vahey, Knockadorraghy (annual ticket), Neil Parkinson, Dublin (annual ticket), and Mary Kirrane, Knockroe (online ticket). The jackpot for the draw to be held today Tuesday, February 11 is €12,500.

GAA news

Islandeady GAA Club registration is now open. Register online by logging onto Foireann.ie / choose your membership and follow the online instructions. There was no winner of the Islandeady GAA lotto draw which took place on Sunday, February 2. The jackpot was €10,850. Lucky Dip prizewinners were Bridie and John Lally, and Regina Kelly.

Card games

Results of the game which was held on February 3 were; 1st Sean O Boyle, 2nd shared by Peter O’Malley and John Walsh; 3rd was also shared by Jimmy Ruane, Pat Masterson and Mag Needham. Raffle winners were; Peter O’Malley, John McGuire, Kathleen Clarke and Mag Needham. Card games continue every Monday night in Islandeady Community Centre at 8.30pm. 

Rambling House

The Rambling House meet every Tuesday night in the Community Centre from 7.30-9.30pm, less frequently during the summer months. They play music, sing mostly traditional, folk, and all the well-known songs. All beginners and improvers are encouraged to join, in a friendly and welcoming social atmosphere. People are also encouraged to sing on their own to give them confidence, and many budding singers and musicians have evolved from this fantastic group. There is a tea-break midway through the session, giving people a chance to chat, discuss music, swap notes and generally catch up. The Rambling House is managed by Mary McDonnell with the help from others and all are most welcome to attend on any night.

Mens Shed

Mass attendees at the 11am on Sunday, February 2, thank the Mens Shed for their supply of beautifully made St Brigids crosses, which Fr Chris blessed and provided for distribution following the ‘Blessing of the throats’ in honour of St Blaise.
