Meals on Wheels are hot meals delivered to individuals at home (either on a temporary or long term basis). Meals on wheels can make your life easier. Deliveries take place on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s, and consist of soup, main meal and dessert. Those wishing to avail of two meals on Monday’s and Thursday’s can do so by notifying the Tacú Centre. This service covers Ballinrobe and the Lake District area.

Connect Café is a Thursday coffee morning group for members of the community, and takes place from 10.30am to 12 noon in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, Ballinrobe. Some of the benefits of attending the connect café as follows: enhance connections with others; make new connections; create a sense of community and belonging; create a space to have open and meaningful conversations; learn about the importance of connecting with others; reduce isolation and loneliness; learn about yourself and others. Low cost counselling is available in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, Ballinrobe. Contact 087 2859973 to talk confidentially and/or to make an appointment. Each call to the low cost counselling service is dealt with promptly and the caller is matched with a suitable counsellor. This is an extremely confidential service.
Youth Counselling is available by contacting the Tacú Family Resource Centre. Two counsellors are available for young people aged 16-25, who are struggling with relationships, anxiety, worries, or who just simply wants someone to listen to them. Bingo (also via-Zoom) takes place in the Parish Centre, Ballinrobe, on Tuesday (tonight) at 8.30pm. Places in the parish centre are limited. For those wishing to play via-Zoom or who require further details and information, you are asked to contact Monica at 087 4111343.
Santa’s Grotto will take place in Ballinrobe on Saturday, November 30, and Sunday, December 1. Parents wishing to register their children to visit Santa are reminded that there are limited places left and the advice is to book early to avoid disappointment.
The time slots are as follows: Sensory Slots, 11.30am and 2.20pm on Saturday, November 30; 12.20pm and 4.10pm on Sunday, December 1. All other times are from 11.50am to 5.30pm on Saturday, November 30, and 12.20pm to 4.10pm on Sunday, December 1. All of the time slots run every 20 minutes.
Parents wishing to register their children for this event are asked to email the names of the children, ages of the children, two items on Santa list, and the name and phone number of parent/guardian to tacuevents@gmail.com.
This year’s Ballinrobe Christmas Lights Tractor Parade will take place next Sunday, December 1, at 6pm. Some of the top tractors in the west of Ireland will be decorated in Christmas lights for a parade around the bustling south Mayo town. A memorable evening is anticipated for what is always a fun-filled family occasion.
Christine Hynes was the winner of €80 in last week’s 50/50 draw conducted by the Tacú Family Resource Centre. Participants can buy a weekly 50/50 ticket (€2 each or three tickets for €5) with all tickets sold entered into a weekly jackpot draw. Fifty per-cent of the weekly ticket sales goes to the Tacú centre, with the other 50 per-cent going to the jackpot winner. They are available to purchase in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, and the draw takes place every Tuesday night at the weekly game of bingo in the parish centre.
Partry Bingo takes place every Monday night in the Partry Community Centre, at 8.30pm.
There was no winner of the €25,000 lotto jackpot draw which was held in Art O’Neill’s Bar, on Monday, November 18. The numbers drawn were 4, 6, 9 and 21. The €25 winners were Des May and James Daly.
Ballinrobe Golf Club recently donated €1,000 to Mayo/Roscommon Hospice following the results of a raffle held during the club’s ‘Swing into Autumn’ competition.
The junior men’s team will return to Connacht Junior One (B) League action next Sunday, December 1, when they welcome Sligo Second XV to The Green. This tie is scheduled to kick-off at 2.30pm and your support for the black and white would be appreciated.

At the well attended community alert meeting which was held last Monday night, November 18, at 7.30pm in St. Aidan’s Room, local Garda Mick Tolan and Garda Olive Lafferty gave a presentation to open community meeting on how best to protect yourself and your property against theft, especially during the dark winter months. They also gave tips on personal safety.
The Wednesday Get-Together once again, hosted a very successful coffee morning/cake sale fundraiser and art exhibition on Sunday, November 17, in St Aidan’s Room immediately after the 11am Mass. The group extend thanks to all those involved: those who organised the event, those who generously contributed by baking irresistible homemade breads, cakes, buns, tarts and novelty items, and all those who made substantial monetary contributions on the day. A large homemade iced Christmas Cake was raffled and the winner was Helena Naughton, Graffymore. To date a total of €1022 has been raised. The group also sincerely thank all who continue to support this annual fundraiser, which benefits so many people.

The last draw of the Islandeady GAA lotto took place on Sunday, November 24, in the Halfway and the jackpot was €10,700. The Islandeady GAA annual general meeting took place on Friday, November 22 in St Aidan’s Room. Further details next week.

Midwinter Melodies, a concert in St Muredach's Cathedral, Ballina, will take place on Friday, November 29, at 8pm in aid of the restoration project. It will be hosted by Eileen Dunne, and guest artists are Eimear Quinn, St Muredach's Cathedral choir and St Mary’s Secondary School Choir. Tickets costing €30 and available at www.ballinaparish.org.
