Musical Society AGM

Ballinrobe Musical Society will hold its annual general meeting on Wednesday, May 27, in Ballinrobe Parish Centre at 8pm. All are welcome to attend.

Sing Song Social

The Sing Song Social is a pop-up choir from Ballinrobe, who meet up on a regular basis and just sing for fun. These pop-up singing events are very relaxed and sociable, and you get a great sense of achievement from singing the finished product. There is also no commitment to the group and you can join in the singing as little or as often as you like, and each event is new to everyone. 

The group meets at Ballinrobe Bright Beginnings, in the church in the old Convent, Convent Road, Ballinrobe. Those interested in joining are asked to please visit the Sing Social’s Facebook page. New members are welcome.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels are hot meals delivered to individuals at home (either on a temporary or long -erm basis). Meals on wheels can make your life easier. This service covers Ballinrobe and the Lake District area. Deliveries take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and consist of soup, main meal and dessert. People can also avail of two meals on Mondays and Thursdays.

Low-cost counselling

Low-cost counselling is available in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, Ballinrobe. Please contact 087 2859973 to talk confidentially and/or to make an appointment. Each call to the low-cost counselling service is dealt with promptly and the caller is matched with a suitable counsellor. This is an extremely confidential service.

Youth counselling is available by contacting the Tacú Family Resource Centre. Two counsellors are available for young people aged 16-25, who are struggling with relationships, anxiety, worries, or who just simply wants someone to listen to them. Gardening Club

A gardening club organised by the Tacú Family Resource Centre meets every Wednesday at 11am in the Ballinrobe Community Garden. New members are welcome.

Hollymount-Carramore GAA Club

Hollymount-Carramore GAA Club’s 60mx40m 3G astroturf pitch is available for bookings. This pitch is ideal for training and for games up to seven-a-side. Bookings can be made by contacting 086-0409974 or 086-8108582.

Astroturf Pitch

Kilmaine GAA Club’s astroturf pitch is available for bookings. This facility is ideal for teams wishing to train, community events, or groups who would like to meet up for a game of football. GAA Club lotto

There was no winner of the €12,700 lotto jackpot in the Ballinrobe GAA Clut Lotto, which was held on Monday, April 20. The numbers drawn were 23, 28, 30 and 33.

Ballinrobe Rugby Club

Ballinrobe Rugby Club held its weekly 50/50 draw on Sunday, April 19, with Kenneth Loughrey the winner of €450.

GAA Club lotto

There was no winner of the €12,900 lotto jackpot draw which was held on Sunday, April 19. The numbers drawn were 11, 17, 23 and 24.The €50 winners were Shane Nally, Crossboyne; Michael Commins, Roundfort, and Lynda Forde Hession, Frenchgrove.

Jaguars and Daimlers at Turlough Park 

The Irish Jaguar and Daimler Club are visiting the National Museum of Ireland at Turlough Park, Castlebar, at 3.30pm on Sunday, May 3rd.

Members of the public are invited to come along and see over 50 Jaguar cars both classic and modern from all over Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland. 

The club are hosting their annual rally in Co Mayo this year over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Based in Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar, they will have a run through the Doolough pass on Saturday and through Achill on Sunday, where they will enjoy some of the best scenic drives in the country. 

On Sunday afternoon, May 3rd, they will visit the National Museum of Ireland at Turlough Park where their cars will be on display in a prominent position in front of the museum. All are welcome. Admission is free.

Mayo Abbey

Spirit of Mayo Day in Mayo Abbey

Saturday, May 2nd, will see a variety of events being held in Mayo Abbey to celebrate Mayo Day. 

From 2.30pm to 4.30pm, Mayo Abbey Centre will host a Heritage talk and video, tour of the Mayo Abbey Organic Garden and information about the Mayo Abbey Wetlands project. Activities will run throughout the afternoon so feel free to drop in. Refreshments will be served at 4pm. 

From 4.30pm to 6pm, Mayo Gaels GAA Club will host a mini sports event for everyone from U6 to U18. This event will feature classic favourites such as the wheelbarrow race and 3-legged race for U8s and U10s, as well as much more. Join them for plenty of fun, prizes and refreshments. 

From 10pm, The Black Pudding Club will take place in Byrne's, Mayo Abbey with plenty of music, songs and poetry served with some black pudding and brown bread.

Mayo Gaels lotto

The numbers drawn for the Mayo Gaels lotto on Tuesday, April 21, were 7, 10, 22 and 36. There was no jackpot winner, and the €30 winners were Laura Brennan, Louise Lawless, Patricia Lydon and Vahey Gang. 

The next week’s draw will be on Tuesday, April 28, with a jackpot of €18,800.

Community Services

Why not go along to the Community Coffee Morning every Thursday for a cuppa, a chat and some freshly baked scones. No booking necessary. The social dinner takes place every Tuesday but must be booked in advance.

Mayo Abbey Community Services offer free computer/smartphone support for beginners; hot desk spaces with fibre broadband connections suitable for virtual meetings or interviews.; Pick up and drop off point for Local Link Bus Service which goes to Castlebar daily Tuesday to Saturday and Claremorris every Thursday.

This service is available to all and free to travel pass holders. Book with Local Link on 094-9005150. Collection from your home may be possible by calling the Centre on 094-9365987.

Thursday Morning Walking Group

Why not go along on Thursday mornings and join the walking group. Starting from the community centre at 10.30am you are welcome to walk as little or as much as you like and bring a hi-vis. Call Ann on 086-6057568 or call the Centre on 094-9365987 for information.

Islandeady

Community Council celebrates 50 years

Islandeady Community Council is celebrating 50 years this year (1976 to 2026) and it has been agreed that this special occasion should be marked in some way. A subcommittee has been formed and its first meeting took place on Tuesday, April 21, at 8pm in St Aidan’s. If you’d like to help the committee in any way, contact any member of the community council.

Spring Clean

The next Community Spring Clean/Litter Pick will take place the Bank Holiday Weekend, May 1st to 4th. Everybody is kindly asked to give an hour to pick up litter in their area over the weekend and to place it into black refuse bags and leave inside the GAA gates on Bank Holiday Monday evening for collection on Tuesday morning. 

Litter is an issue that can affect every single area in Islandeady, and therefore everyone should work together to combat and prevent this problem as much as possible. 'If everyone did a little it would mean a lot', so lets make a conscious effort to keep Islandeady litter-free.

Card game

The results of the Card Drive for Monday, April 20, are as follows; 1st prize won by Gerry Gibbons, 2nd went to Angela Moran and 3rd prize was shared by Peter Reynolds and Ann Roache. Lots of players won some beautiful prizes that included numerous hampers.

The committee of St Paul's National School thank all who supported this game, either by sponsoring the prizes or playing the game. They especially thank John, Bernie and Breege for hosting the game. The regular card games continue every Monday night in Islandeady Community Centre at 8.30pm.

GAA news

There was no winner of the last Islandeady GAA lotto draw on Sunday, April 26nd, in the Halfway, when the jackpot was €12,500. Underage GAA training continues each Saturday morning at 10am.

Walks Group

The Islandeady Walks continue on Monday evenings for 2026. On Monday, April 20th, the group walked the loop from Jack’s Cottage via Cornagushlaun, approximately 5km and returned to a lovely cuppa and chat thanks to Joe and Irene in Jacks's. The meeting point last night, Monday, April 27, at 7pm was at 'Martys'. The planned walk was along the Westport road and crossing at the railway gates onto the Keelogues Rd and walking the Keelogues/Lismolin/Dooleague loop to return to Marty’s, approximately 5.4km. This is relatively flat terrain, on mostly quiet road with one steep incline. Hi-vis advisable at all times.
