Masters Senior League

Ballinrobe Town defeated Conn Rangers 3-2 on Wednesday night last in a competitive Masters Senior League clash, at Milebush Park. The Robesiders ended their league season in second spot, with Ballina Town winning the league title. Ballinrobe snatched the lead just one minute into their joust against Conn Rangers, when JP O’Gorman set-up Enda Casey and the latter finished with aplomb. However, a doughty Rangers bounced back, and they levelled matters after eight minutes when Gerard Bourke guided a tidy finish beyond the reach of Paul Tiernan.

An entertaining first half began to unfold and the red and white regained the lead on 12 minutes when the poaching Alan Dowling rustled the back of the net after being set-up by O’Gorman. The Town could have added a third on 18 minutes, but O’Gorman’s penalty kick flew agonisingly wide.

Just before the sounding of the half-time whistle, Liam McHale levelled matters for Conn and an intriguing second half was in store. Ballinrobe netted what proved to be the winning goal two minutes into the new half. O’Gorman continued to try to find that vital pocket of space and his neat pass set-up Dowling and the latter swept home a terrific finish, much to the delight of his team-mates. Conn did their level best to salvage an equaliser for the third time, but the Ballinrobe defence held on and the Robesiders ended their league campaign on a winning note.

Ballinrobe Town will return to Milebush Park this week for a Masters Senior Cup match against Castlebar Town.
