First Communion

Congratulations to the following pupils of Ardagh and Knockanillo National Schools who received their First Holy Communion at a special Mass in Ardagh church last week: Adam Devers, Alice Keane, Deirbhile McHale, Ryan Connell, Sarah Munnelly, Odhran Marsh, Jason McAndrew, Sean McAndrew and Dylan McDonnell. Special gratitude is expressed to Fr Pat Munnelly, PP, parents and teachers for preparing the children so well for the sacrament and all involved in preparing the altar and cleaning the church for the ceremony.

GAA

Ardagh had a creditable four points to spare victory over Killala in division 4 of the AbbVie Mayo GAA senior football league last week on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-11 while a very strong Ballina Stephenites B side had a comfortable win over Ardagh B in division 6A of the league. A number of the club's Ardmoy underage teams are currently enjoying commendable runs in their respective divisions.

Proceeds

Ardagh Social Services are to benefit from the proceeds of last weekend's charity cycle undertaken by Lisheen/Cooneal/Crossmolina Cycling Club in memory of Brian Cawley, Patrick McHale and Christine Irwin. The cycle took participants on a very scenic route covering the beautiful and very scenic Lough Conn, Ardagh and Knockmore areas on the June bank holiday weekend.

Diary Date

Parishioners, family members and friends are asked to note that the annual day trip to the Fr. Peyton Centre, Attymass, will take place on Tuesday, June 30. Full details will be announced later.

Friday calls

Parish Priest, Fr. Pat Munnelly, will undertake his First Friday calls to parishioners this coming Friday, June 5, starting at 11am.

The death occurred on May 24, of Martin Sweeney, Ballyglass, Ballycastle. Sympathy is extended to his sisters Mary McDonnell (Behy, Ballycastle), Nora McLoughlin (Rathglass) his brothers Pat (USA), Peter (Ballintean), his niece Triona McLoughlin, nephews Shane McLoughlin, Gerard McDonnell and Robert Sweeney, grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

The late Patrick (Paddy) Hefferon

The death occurred suddenly on May 25, of Patrick (Paddy) Hefferon, Belderrig Mòr. Sympathy is extended to his sisters Breda O'Toole (Ballycastle), Mary O'Donnel (Limerick), his brothers John (Dublin), Martin (Belderrig), Kevin (UK) and Paul (Australia), nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Church Gate collection

Thank you to all who donated to the recent church gate collection in aid of Mayo Cancer Support. The amount raised was €279.85.

Darkness into Light

Thank you to all who donated to this walk on May 9. The amount raised was €1,495.69 which will be given to Ballina Outreach under the Pieta umbrella.

Cèide Fields

Free entry to Cèide Fields Visitor Centre on the first Wednesday of each month. It is open daily from 10am and last admission is 5.15pm. Kells Cafe opens daily from 10.30am to 4pm.

The annual general meeting of Kiddies Korner will take place on June 15, at 8pm in the Playschool. All are welcome.
