Strong start to 2025 for Volvo and Toyota

The EX30 is one of four electric cars from Volvo currently for sale in Ireland.

Volvo Car Ireland registered 536 cars in January 2025, the highest number since 2008.

The carmaker finished the month as the No 1 premium brand for electric vehicles with the EX30 the best-selling electric vehicle in the premium sector.

The XC60 was once again the top performer for the month.

Some 43% of Volvo deliveries to customers were for electric vehicles while plug-in hybrid deliveries have doubled year-on-year.

Currently, Volvo has four electric cars available for sale in Ireland, the EX30, EX40, EC40 and EX90. Soon joining this lineup will be the ES90 which will be unveiled in Stockholm on March 5 next. 

Meanwhile, Toyota topped the January new car sales market for the fifth consecutive year.

It sold 5,354 passenger vehicles in January which was over 1,500 units ahead of the closest competitor.

Five of its models have been named in the top ten best-selling models for January - the Yaris Cross, RAV4, Corolla, Toyota C-HR and Yaris.

For January, petrol hybrid, and petrol PHEV hybrid sales surpassed petrol sales while diesel sales fell to 16.30% market share.

Hybrid PHEV, and Battery Electric Vehicles accounted for 96.2% of Toyota’s passenger car sales in January.
