BYD launches new Dolphin Surf hatchback

BYD's Dolphin Surf has already been voted ‘World Urban Car of the Year 2025’.

Chinese carmaker BYD has launched its new, four-door Dolphin Surf hatchback with a start price of from €17,985, writes Trish Whelan

Prices include Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) grants and subsidies.

The model has already been voted ‘World Urban Car of the Year 2025’ at this year’s World Car of the Year Awards and has just been awarded a maximum five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP.

This compact, all-electric, 4-seater is available in three model variants of Active, Boost (€22,230) and Comfort (€24,113). Dolphin Surf is powered by a choice of battery packs: 30kWh, 43.2kWh and 115kWh with 0-100km/h acceleration speeds from 9.1 seconds to 12.2 seconds depending on model choice. It has a driving range of 322kms WLTP and can DC fast charge from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes.

Equipped to support active lifestyles, the car has Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology that allows devices to be powered by the car’s own battery at up to 3.3kW.

BYD’s range has expanded to six models and their main dealer network has grown to 11 outlets with more on the way. All BYD models have a six-years manufacturer’s warrant and an eight years battery and electric motor warranty. The Irish distributor is Motor Distributors Limited of Naas Road, Dublin.
