International debut to remember for Rebecca

Rebecca McGrath gave two impressive displays at dressage events in the UK and Germany.

Showjumping: Rebecca McGrath, riding out of Ballyjennings Stables in Ballinrobe, recently made her international debut for Ireland competing at the Wellington International Dressage Show in the UK. The 18-year-old together with her 14-year-old mare Summersong Caledonia achieved a top ten placing in the Junior Team International class, finishing best of the Irish and also claiming an FEI MER (Minimum Eligibility Requirement) for the European Championships this summer.

Following on from her excellent performances in the UK, Rebecca travelled onto the Hagen International in Germany to compete against riders from Europe, America and further afield. Rebecca and Summersong Caledonia claimed scores of 65% and 66% from the international judges in classes containing the very top riders in the world. This talented team are trained by her mother Sinead McGrath, an international dressage rider herself, and supported by her father Fintan McGrath, an ex-jockey who breeds and develops young horses for top competition.

The future is very bright for Rebecca who was the recipient of the George Mernagh Bursary a few years ago.
