Milebush Park, the headquarters of the Mayo Football League, is set to be renamed as a result of the league agreeing sponsorship terms with one of world soccer’s most iconic brands.
Known for most of the last decade as Solar 21 Park, which was the first time the naming rights had been sold, for the next three years at least the ground will carry the game of Umbro Park Milebush.
From 1924 to the present day, sportswear company Umbro has been a household name linked to many sports and heroes across the globe, including the Republic of Ireland soccer team. In securing the naming rights of Mayo soccer’s spiritual home, Umbro has said it is “delighted with this partnership” and it is looking forward to “collaborating with all involved to support grassroots football initiatives”.
“The Mayo Football League is delighted to announce our partnership with Umbro Ireland,” said chairperson Seamus Hughes who added that the new partner already had deep roots in the community.
“Umbro is a well-known and reputable company and we look forward to working with them for many years to come, who also Solar 21 for their “unwavering and continued support over many years” which he said led to some large developments at the home of Mayo soccer.
“Umbro’s investment will allow us to continue on our journey of constantly improving our facilities at the league headquarters and thereby benefiting the boys and girls, men and women of Mayo, both young and old, for generations to come.” Mr Hughes went on to thank Donal Benson and Tom McDaniel from the League for their invaluable contribution in securing the new deal.
The sponsorship arrangement was officially unveiled last night (Monday) in the TF Royal Hotel & Theatre, Castlebar and coincided with the launch of the Elverys Sports Super League, the new season of which will commence on February 25.
