An historic event will be re-enacted in Ballinrobe this coming Sunday, October 21, when the town commemorates the 150th anniversary of the first-ever 200-yard dash held in The Green.

J. Barret’s victory in the 200 yards flat race in the 1873 sports event saw him claim the coveted Literary Institute cup. As this milestone approaches, anticipation is building for the exciting event at the Lake District Athletic Club track in The Green on Sunday, at 3pm.

Each club in the town is invited to nominate one male and one female to represent them in the race. Entry is free of charge.

With the aim of bringing together clubs from the surrounding area and creating a sense of community and enjoyment, the organisers are eager to make this event a memorable one.

Eligible participants must be 16 years or older, and additional information is available on the official website at www.lakedistrictac.com.
