Funding awarded to 48 clubs and groups across Mayo
The newly formed Foxford Table Tennis Club is one of the recipients of Mayo Sports Partnership's 2026 Club Development Small Grant Scheme.
At a recent Mayo Sports Partnership Committee meeting, €32,400 was allocated to 48 clubs and community organisations in Mayo through the Partnership’s 2026 Club Development small grant scheme. This significant support is made possible through Sport Ireland and Dormant Account funding.
Outgoing caitheoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Sean Carey joined Mayo Sports Partnership chairperson Lyndon Jones to announce the allocations recently, with both congratulating all organisations on their great work promoting sport and physical activity in the community.
“Every year Mayo Sports Partnership allocates a small amount of funding to clubs and organisations around the county that enables them to deliver small scale participation opportunities to those who may need assistance most,” stated Lyndon Jones.
“On behalf of Mayo Sports Partnership I would like to thank Sport Ireland for providing the funding for this initiative and also to Mayo County Council for all their support,” he added.
Some of the projects submitted for assistance this year includes sports such as badminton, softball, petanque, inline hockey, pickleball, rounders and participation initiatives for people with a disability along with volunteer coach education training in basketball, swimming and first aid.
Head of Mayo Sports Partnership, Charlie Lambert thanked the many sport volunteers “that are selflessly involved in providing a huge variety of sport across the county,” and said MSP would continue to provide whatever support it could to do so and advised clubs with any queries to contact the partnership’s club development officer Brendan Fergus at bfergus@mayococo.ie.
Sport Ireland recently revealed the results of its Irish Sports Monitor 2025 survey, which shows which shows that more people than ever before are taking part in sport on a weekly basis – more than 2.12 million. The data also shows that personal exercise continues to grow in popularity, with one in five people now participating on a weekly basis. The top five most popular sports are personal exercise (20%), swimming (8%), running (7%), cycling (4%), and weights (4%).
