Changes afoot to Mayo Super League

Changes afoot to Mayo Super League

There are some big changes to the Mayo Football League for the 2026 season, which begins on February 1.

While the Premier League, League One and League will not change, the Super League will have a ‘split season’ format for 2026.

After one round of fixtures where each team has played each other once, the league will be split into two groups of fixe, with two rounds within the two groups.

There is no change to the Super League to Premier League promotion/relegation system, operating the same rules as 2025 Super League clubs who also have ‘B’ teams in other divisions will also have to manage their squads carefully in 2026.

An ‘A’ team must name a minimum of 18 players, and can only use three ‘B’ team players in any one game When a registered ‘B’ team player plays five times with the ‘A’ team, he automatically becomes an ‘A’ team player and cannot continue to play for the ‘B’ team.

There is no change in the formats for the Mayo Super and Premier Cups, and Divisional Cups.

The Under 21 League will have divisions of four teams, six league games if possible, and the Under 17 and 18 Leagues will have divisions of six teams maximum, ten league games if possible.

In the Under 17 and 18 Leagues, all divisions will be decided by a league final. The top two teams on the final league table to contest the league final.

Any team who concedes a cup match in a competition will have no entry to that competition the following season.
