BYD launches another new model in Ireland
This mid-sized family five-seater SUV is the third of the company’s Super Hybrids on the market here.
Chinese car company BYD has launched the new Sealion 5 Super Hybrid, the eighth model to launch in Ireland in just three years.
This mid-sized family five-seater SUV is the third of the company’s Super Hybrids on the market here.
It works by prioritising electric power with minimal reliance on fuel, achieved by the Super DM Technology developed exclusively by BYD. When the battery is fully charged and switched to EV mode, the vehicles becomes pure-electric, but when the battery state is low, it transforms into an ultra-low fuel consumption hybrid.
Two trims are offered, ‘Comfort’ and ‘Design’ with prices from €36,990 and €40,990 respectively.
Features include a 12.8-inch infotainment system, an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, power front seats, front and rear USB charging ports and rear parking sensors. Design models add front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, electric tailgate, heated front seats and a wireless smartphone charging pad. All versions come with Vehicle-to-Load technology as standard allowing external devices to be powered at up to 3.3kW.
Load capacity of 463 litres extends to 1,410 litres when rear seats are folded.
Two battery sizes are offered with the same total system power output of 212hp, a 12.96kEh delivering up to 62kms of pure-electric range, and an overall combined range of 992kms. The larger 18.3kWh battery ups the all-electric range to 85kms and offers a combined range of 1016kms with acceleration from 0-100km/h in 8.1 seconds.
