Busy January schedule for Westport Town Hall

The cast of Sin & Tonic.

Westport Town Hall has wrapped up another hugely successful panto season. This year's production "Cinderella and the Spare Prince"- which sold out weeks in advance - had audiences bursting with joy, singing along with well known chart toppers and of course just the odd "OH YES IT IS!".

The cast and crew are already looking forward to what is in store for next year's panto, but will remain tightlipped until casting and rehearsals begin again next August/September.

So as not to rest on their laurels, 'The Shows Go On' throughout the year, starting with a full programme of comedy and drama for January.

Comedienne Anne Gildea is back with her new show "Further Adventures in Womaning" on January 17th. Join us as Anne explores the world of the feminine, the mammy, the twerky dancer: From 18-hour girdles and Housewives of The Year, to ripped influencer grannies pumping iron on Insta, from the Sunday drive to the spa break, from Angel Delight to Ozempic and back to the chiffon scarf test, Anne weaves a pant-wetting path through a changing half century of womany stuff. So, if you're looking for a great night out and to beat the January blues, this might be the one for you!

On January 24th, The Acorn Players from Mohill in Co. Leitrim stage "Loophole" a hilarious comedy play by John McManus. Plot: On the surface, it seems that miserable farmers Paidi and Cass are best friends, but time will tell. Paidi has been given just six months left to live and decides to leave the land to Cass. Paidi's no-good brother Rooster is likely to cause problems but hopefully local solicitor Miss Murphy will sort everything out, with the help of the two nosey neighbours Mairead and Molly.

On January 29th, 30th and 31st, Westport playwright Fiona Hoban and The Unmasked Players are back with another original production - "Sin & Tonic"*.

Plot: A sudden death sends shockwaves through a quiet village, shaking its close-knit community to the core. Neighbours rally together for the traditional Irish wake. At first, it's an evening of shared grief and cups of tea.But the calm is short-lived with the arrival of an unexpected visitor.

What follows is a cascade of revelations that threatens to unravel the very fabric of the community. Old wounds are reopened, secrets once hidden come into the light and truths long buried are finally heard.

"Sin & Tonic" is an emotionally charged and darkly humorous play that goes beneath the veneer of normalcy.
