A most incredible year for sport in Co Mayo will be celebrated at the 2026 Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards, which are to take place on Friday, November 13, 2026 at Breaffy House Resort.
Nominations for Mayo’s sporting stars of 2026 are now being accepted.
The Western People is inviting you to explain who you think have gone the extra mile, raised the bar, broken boundaries and scaled new heights in the sporting arena this year – and whose efforts deserve recognition with a Mayo Sports Stars Award.
The Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards have long recognised the sporting deeds of some truly great athletes and the annual gala banquet has been a highlight of Mayo’s sporting and social calendar since 1970.
2026 was illuminated by Mayo’s All-Ireland SFC victory and a large volume of entries are expected for the players who helped turned the county’s dream into reality.
But Mayo sportspeople have soared to exceptional heights across a range of other disciplines too, locally, nationally and internationally, and the Mayo Sports Stars Awards offer the perfect opportunity to recognise that too.
We want you to tell us who should become the 2026 recipients of these prestigious sporting accolades – and why!
Maybe your nominee will be a team, or a coach or mentor who has dedicated themselves to the success of others in their community? Or maybe you know of someone worthy of consideration for the prestigious Young Sportsperson of the Year, or Sports Personality of the Year, or Hall of Fame awards?
We want to hear what sets your nominee apart from all the rest.
Nominations can be submitted for any sporting code, ranging from the mainstream to the niche, either by email to sportsstars@westernpeople.ie or by post to Mayo Sports Stars Awards, Western People, Tone Street, Ballina, Co Mayo.
Please include the name and contact details (if available) of the person(s) or team you are nominating for the 2026 Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards, together with an outline of their achievements.
The name and contact details of the nominator are also requested.
The closing date for receipt of nominations is Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
