Congratulations to IWA members Shane, Mary Kate and Conor in Belmullet, who were overall winners at the Mayo Sports Partnership Boccia tournament in Castlebar recently. It was such an exciting final and the competition was fierce. Everyone had a great time. Everyone at IWA Belmullet thank Mayo Sports Partnership for all their support throughout the year.
Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Dara Calleary recently allocated funding to two projects in the Kiltane parish. The Minister has allocated €100,000 to SN Dubh Thuama for the development of an all-weather MUGA and €65,000 for Tullaghan Bay Rowing Club towards their pontoon project. The Minister congratulated both groups on their successful applications and wished both well with their projects.

The parents and staff of the Naíonra Baile Chruaich express their sincere appreciation to all who supported their card drive on Friday, November 28, in Ballycroy Community Centre. They also extend a heartfelt thank-you to all the businesses for their generous sponsorship, everyone who donated prizes or helped in any way. Míle buíochas.

The draw was held on November 30, and the numbers drawn were 3, 5, 20 and 36 for a jackpot of €7,100 with no winner. The house prize of €100 went to Myles McEntee, Gortleatilla and the 2 x €30 offline winners were McAndrew Boys, Knocknalower and Michael McGrath Jnr, Milltown. The 2 x €30 online winners were Paul Deane, Glenamoy and Paul Deane, Glenamoy. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held in Belderrig Community Centre, on December 7, was €7,200.

Gaeliomána is officially launched. Recently the college was delighted to join Minister Dara Calleary TD at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence, Bekan, for the launch of Gaeliomána, a brand new Irish-language initiative for transition year students. The programme is funded by Roinn na Gaeltachta and coordinated by MSLETB. Gaeliomána promotes the everyday use of Irish through sport, media and cultural engagement. The programme will run in five Mayo Gaeltacht post-primary schools Coláiste Pobail Acla, Gaelcholáiste Chomáin, Saint Brendan's College, Belmullet. Convent of Mercy Belmullet, and Coláiste Muire, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh.
Gaeilge Iorrais extends congratulations to the people of Iorrais who recently achieved the Diploma in Irish B1. Thirteen people, 12 from the Iorrais area and one from Achill, worked very hard and so diligently throughout the two years of this university course. A spokesperson for Gaeilge Iorrais stated that ‘It was a great honour to be able to support the people of Iorrais to undertake this diploma through the Iorrais Irish language scholarship scheme for participants of the Diploma in Irish in Belmullet. The aim of this scheme is to support and encourage the people of the area to undertake this third level Irish course, as we look forward to boosting the speaking of Irish in this area’.
Gaeilge Iorrais is looking forward to starting a new class in September 2026 if there is demand and enough people to start a class.
The Kiltane Christmas Market has wrapped up for another year, and they extend a sincere thank you to everyone who supported the event, from stallholders and volunteers to all who visited on the day, your involvement created a wonderful atmosphere filled with community spirit and festive cheer. A special shout-out to Santa for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit everyone, and to Joanne, Donal, Mary, Danielle, Saoirse, Casey, Tommy and Stephen for all their help with ticket sales and the clean-up before and after the event. A huge thank you also to Erica and her team at the café.
The Kiltane Christmas Market takes place annually on the last Sunday in November, and the organisers are already looking forward to welcoming everyone back on Sunday, November 29, 2026. There are still many Christmas markets taking place around the Erris area throughout December, and they encourage everyone to continue to support local. A total of €1,715 was raised through raffle tickets and market activity. This will go directly towards supporting the Mangan family, and we are deeply grateful for the generosity shown. Wishing you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas from the Kiltane Christmas Market committee.
The Padraig Gallagher Memorial Darts tournament 2025 takes place on Sunday, December 21, in Connolly’s Pub, Stonefield. Entry fee is €10, with check in from 3pm and first games starting at 4pm. There will be a raffle on the night with proceeds this year going to Ballyglass RNLI. If you have any questions contact Kyle on 087 3928435.
