Enniscrone Gold Club Ladies Captain, Martha McNulty, presenting the Ladies Captain Prize to the winning lady, Catriona Carney. Ladies Captain Day events at Enniscrone Golf Club

Enniscrone Golf Club recently celebrated a memorable Ladies Captain's Day, featuring a series of events that brought together golf enthusiasts of all ages. The festivities spanned four days and concluded with a historic competition on Sunday, July 21, 2024.

The event commenced on Thursday with an afternoon hosted by the Ladybirds, setting a cheerful and engaging tone for the days ahead. On Friday evening, members enjoyed a Mixed Social Evening, sponsored by Ann and Mick Mullins, fostering camaraderie and friendly competition among participants. Saturday morning was dedicated to the junior program, where young golfers showcased their skills and enthusiasm for the sport.

The highlight of the celebration occurred on Sunday, as both ladies and gentlemen competed for the coveted Ladies Captain Prize. This year marked a significant milestone as the gentlemen were allowed to play on the championship course for the first time on Ladies Captain's Day. This new addition proved extremely popular, with the timesheet filling up quickly, demonstrating the enthusiasm and support from the male golfers.

Ladies Captain Martha McNulty expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their support throughout the four-day event. "I'm delighted to see such a wonderful turnout and the spirit of camaraderie among our members. Their support over the last few days has made this Ladies Captain's Day truly special," said McNulty.

Martha also extended her sincere thanks to all the generous sponsors for their invaluable support, both businesses and individuals locally and those from her beloved county Limerick. The event's success was made possible through their generosity and commitment. Additionally, Martha expressed her appreciation to all the members of the ladies' club for their work and support during her year of captaincy. 

Sligo and Connacht Club Ground of the Year

Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Club are delighted that they have been selected as the Sligo and Connacht Club Ground of the Year for 2023. This award is well deserved recognition following a number of years of investment in the facilities at Quigabar.

The club extend thanks to all those who have contributed to bringing the club to this point, especially the grant aid partners and the local community for the fantastic support they have received.

Congratulations are also due to the hardworking pitch committee, which includes Liam Cawley, Johnny Mullaney, Mixie Jacob, Robert Jacob, David Tuffy and Declan Rouse, local scheme workers and everyone involved in maintaining the grounds.

Western Gaels Hurling and Camogie Club fundraising draw

There are only 4 weeks to go to the main draw which will take place live on August 24. Proceeds for the fundraiser is going towards the development of their first pitch and it will be the first hurling and camogie grounds in Sligo.

Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA Club notes

The Intermediate team suffered their first league defeat in the campaign when they met a resilient Bunninadden team away from home on a wet Friday evening recently. Once the home team got in front they held on to it to the end where it finished 1-13 to 1-11. The team now play their final group game against Drumcliffe/Rosses Point on Friday, August 2, at home.

The Junior team played their final game in the league on Sunday afternoon having already received a walkover from Easkey in the final round. They travelled to Stenson Park to meet St john’s where they finished on the wrong side of the result with a scoreline of 5-4 to 2-10. They will now prepare for championship which starts on the weekend of August 24/25.

The U18 team suffered a two point loss to Curry when they met in round three of the championship. The full time score was 2-11 to 2-09. Their next game is at home the evening, Tuesday, July 30, against Tubbercurry/Cloonacool.

The U15 team were away to Calry/St Joseph’s on Thursday last at Hazelwood main pitch in their second round of the B1 championship.

The U13C team travelled to Oxfield Park when they took on Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in round three of the championship, while the U13B team played Owenmore Gaels on Friday, July 26,in the second round of the B championship.

Blotto

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football club blotto draw which was held on Sunday, July 21, were 28, 36 and 41. The €25 prizewinners were Chelsea Delaney, Paul Shanahan, Jerry Towey and David Lynott. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Sunday, July 28, in the Ocean Sands Hotel was €6200.

Eoghan Rua Ladies lotto

The numbers drawn in the Eoghan Rua Ladies weekly lotto held on July 22, were 6, 13, 18 and 25. There was no jackpot winner. The €30 consolation prize winners were Paul O’Brien, Gertie Mahon, Billy Doherty, Brian Taylor and Louise Thornhill. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Monday, July 29, was €16,000.

Defibrillators updated

Cabra-Rathlee and Easkey Defibrillator Group have been busy updating all the local defibrillators/AED’s with new batteries and pads in collaboration with Easkey Enhancement Association. There are 5 AED’s in the local area; Rathlee RC Church F26 N244; Easkey GAA pitch F26 TF66; St James Church, Easkey F26 YV05; Easkey Community Centre F26 V2T3; and Colasite Iascaigh F26 EC56.

They are currently in the process of setting up a Community First Responder Group where they will be linked to the National Ambulance service and have trained responders to go to an emergency with an AED while awaiting an ambulance. This will take some time as training must take place for all the volunteers. Garden in full bloom

Tireragh Community Support Ltd garden is in full bloom. They are open Monday to Friday from 9am to 2pm, so call in to stroll around or to buy some veg. Potatoes will be ready soon but they have lots of other produce ready in the meantime. You could bring a picnic and explore the woodland and garden.

Donation bin for NWSPCA

Waterpoint have introduced a donation bin at their reception area for all bottles/cans with the deposit return scheme symbol and all proceeds will be donated to the Ballina NWSPCA. They are very grateful to their amazing customers who have donated so far.

Cemetery Masses

The Mass in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass/Enniscrone takes place on August Bank Holiday weekend Sunday, August 4, at 6pm. A collection will be taken up at this Mass for the upkeep of the cemetery and also for the ongoing expansion of the cemetery. Your generously will be appreciated.

The annual cemetery Mass in Roslea Cemetery, Easkey, will be held on Friday, August 2, at 7pm; Churchill Cemetery, Dromore West, on Sunday, August 4, at 12 noon; and Templeboy Cemetery, on Sunday, August 11, at 10am.

Don’t forget to stop by and grab some freshly brewed coffee or tea to go as well as delicious homemade treats on Saturday and every Saturday morning from 11am to 3pm at Enniscrone Indoor Market in The Old Church right next door to Checkout Enniscrone shop. There is also beautiful items handmade with heart and passion. Meet Cora and Hannah from EWAC, Enniscrone, who with other members from their club create many amazing creations; Elaine will have her handmade earrings, necklaces and more all made from recycling materials; Declan has amazing paintings on display, leather belts and much more. Summer Camp 2024

Bookings for the Waterpoint Summer Camp 2024 is now open. There will be three days of fun filled activities such as swimming, outdoor activities, rock climbing and arts and crafts. The camps which run from 10am to 3pm are suitable for children aged 6+ and costs €55 per week. For booking contact 096 36999 or bookingswaterpoint@gmail.com. Beach Toy Library returns

Enniscrone Tidy Towns have put out their freshly painted Toy Library boxes on Enniscrone beach. There are buckets and spades available for children to borrow and play with in the sand. Just remember to leave them back in the box before going home. If you find toys abandoned on the beach please drop them into the box for others to play with. This is one example of sustainability, don’t dump, don’t waste, recycle and reuse. All that is needed is good, warm and bright sunny beach days.

The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on Saturday, July 20 last were 3, 6, 29 and 31. There was no jackpot and no match three winners. The new updated Summer pool session timetable at Waterpoint is as follows: Monday to Friday 9-10am adults only (lanes), 10.30-12 noon, 12.30-2pm, 2.30-4pm, 4.30-6pm (Monday to Thursday) and 6.30-7.45pm (Monday to Thursday). On Friday from 4.30-6.30pm Inflatable. The timetable for Saturday and Sunday is 11am-12.30pm, 1-2.30pm, 3-4.30pm.
