Congratulations to the Stokane NS 'Fossil Finders' who are overall winners of the 1st Lego League UK and Ireland regional competition and are now through to the national final in March.

Locks of Love

All at Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, are very proud of 5th year student Ruth Foody who is taking part in Locks of Love in support of the LauraLynn Hair Donation fundraiser, helping children and families through LauraLynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice. All proceeds will go directly to LauraLynn and every donation – big or small- can make a real difference.

County Sligo Spring Games

West Sligo Athletics Club extend congratulations to all the athletes who competed in the County Sligo Spring Games last week in Grange, with the stunning Benbulben at their side. All the children competed brilliantly, supported each other and showed great team spirit throughout the day. The club thank North Sligo for being such wonderful hosts.

Some of the medal winners from West Sligo Athletics Club were; U11 boys relay, silver -Sean Gordon, Matthew Roberts, Luke Brady and Liam Boland: U11 girls 60m silver Chroia Walsh; U11 boys 60m bronze Sean Gordon; U11 600m, gold Chroia Walsh and Matthew Roberts. U12 boys shot putt, gold Matthew Kilcullen; U12 boys shot putt, bronze Jacob Elliot-Cooney. U13 60m, bronze, Charlie Rolston; U13 long jump, gold, Charlie Rolston. U14 shot putt, gold, Donncha Fallon. Well done to everyone who took part, it was a fantastic day of athletics.

Pancreatic Cancer Research fundraiser

Rebecca Donnelly, Enniscrone, will run the half marathon in London on April 12, in memory of her aunt Mary Burke. All funds raised will go to pancreatic cancer research. The Enniscrone Kilglass Gaelic4Mothers&Others will be back training on Monday, March 3, from 8 to 9pm at Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA astro. They are looking for new members 25 years plus to join their amazing group. The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on Sunday, February 8, were 28, 34 and 41. There was no jackpot winner. The €25 prizewinners were Mary Cawley, Mark Kavanagh, Michael Kilcullen, Lauren, Chloe and Nicole Carden. The jackpot in the latest draw held on February 15, in Hopkins Bar, was €11,400.

The late Pat Golden

The death took place of Pat Golden, Quigaboy, Kilglass, Enniscrone. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Joe and Martin and sisters May and Vera. Pat was the beloved husband of Mary and loving father of Christine Howley (Bonniconlon), Vera (Quigaboy), and Peter (Crossmolina). He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren Amy and Andrew, great grandson, son-in-law Joe, loving sister Kathleen Gilroy, in-laws, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Pat reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina on Friday evening, February 6, and removal took place to the Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Enniscrone. His requiem Mass was held on Saturday morning at 10.30am followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Enniscrone. May he rest in peace.

Flower Arrangement workshop

Fairy House Handicraft presents a flower arrangement workshop at Kilglass Parish Community Centre and Hub on Saturday, March 7, from 12 noon to 3pm. Join Zsuzsanna for a floral arrangement work shop using artificial flowers. This is a perfect chance for enthusiasts of all levels who want to enhance their skills and explore their creativity. New housing for Dromore West and Easkey

Councillor Michael Clarke is delighted to deliver 24 new homes in Dromore West and Easkey. Sligo County Council has announced the formal signing of contracts for the construction of 18 new housing units at St Farnan’s Drive, Knockaculleen Townland, Dromore West, and a further eight units at Woodland Crescent, Aderavoher Townland, Easkey, Co Sligo. The works will be delivered by Michael Quinn Building Contractors, following their appointment as the successful contractor for both schemes. The developments have been designed by the Housing Capital Section of Sligo County Council.

The late Peter (Pete) Cawley

The death has taken place of Peter (Pete) Cawley, Ballinahowna, Easkey, Co Sligo, peacefully surrounded by his family at his residence. Peter was the beloved husband of Margaret and loving father of Declan (Collooney), Gary (Dromore West) and Karen Grehan (Ballisodare). He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, sons, daughter, sister Noreen Guerin (Killorglin, Kerry), brother Noel (Ballinahowna), son-in-law Conor, daughter-in-law Ashling and Declan’s partner Michelle, grandchildren Noah, Ally, Luvass, Rossa, Jonah, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Pete reposed in the comfort of his home surrounded by his wife and family and his funeral arrived to the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Dromore West, for requiem Mass on Saturday, February 7, at 9.30am, with his funeral proceeding for cremation to McGowan’s Crematorium and Funeral Home, Collooney. May he rest in peace.

St Patrick’s Day Parade 2026

Plans are well underway for the Easkey Village St Patrick’s Day Parade, for Tuesday, March 17, starting at 3pm. Everyone still has 5 weeks to plan their floats and banners. The organisers are hoping that people will save the date and they will stay local for their celebrations of the National Feast.

If you think it is too daunting to make a float, then groups could walk behind a Flag or Banner or simply just walk in the parade with blinged-up prams, buggies, bikes and scooters etc to give the children the thrill of being in a parade. ‘Let’s try to make this year’s parade the best one ever’, said a spokesperson.

Eoghan Rua Ladies and Easkey GAA lotto

Indoor hurling

Indoor hurling continues on Wednesdays in the Easkey Sports Hall (Old Factory) from 6 to 6.45pm for children aged U5 to U7 and from 6.45 to 7.30pm for U9 to U11’s. All are welcome, new players and old players, girls and boys, from all clubs. Helmets and hurls will be provided at training for new players. Bring water and the cost is €2 for the hall.

Eoghan Rua Ladies dinner dance

A fantastic night of dancing and celebration will be held at the Ocean Sands Hotel, Enniscrone, on Saturday, March 14, when the Eoghan Rua Ladies FC will mark an incredible year for the club, including; Senior Champions 2025 – two years in a row and a host of underage titles. Special guest on the night will be Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh, Kerry LGFA All Ireland champion and 5 time All Star. The night is open to all club members, supporters and the wider community. Everyone is welcome to join the club as they celebrate these fantastic achievements in style.

Family Quiz

Corballa National School Parents Association will present a Family Quiz Evening in Muddy Burns, Bar and Restaurant with quiz master Tom Tuffy, on Wednesday, February 18, from 7-9pm. There will be a raffle on the night. Teams of 4-5, costs €40, but there must be at least one adult on each team. Bring the whole family along for a fun-filled quiz evening and test your trivia skills together. All proceeds are in aid of Corballa NS Parents Association.

The late John Richard Burfoot

The death took place of John Richard Burfoot, Castletown, Corballa, who was born on September 1, 1935 and died peacefully on February 7, 2026 at Sligo University Hospital. John will be sadly missed by his daughter Sally, grandchildren Karl and Hannah, his sister Diane and son-in-law Alan, wider family and friends.

John’s funeral arrived at St Joseph’s Church, Castleconnor on Friday morning, February 13 for Requiem Mass at 10.30 followed by burial in Killanley Cemetery. May John rest in peace.

Castleconnor GAA All-Stars
