Local Notes: St Muredach's Cathedral Boys choir going from strength to strength.

The St Muredach's Cathedral Boys' choir which was founded in November 2022 and are going from strength to strength. They have 22 members ranging in age from 9-13yrs. They were established with a view to carrying on a rich tradition of choral sacred music in St Muredach's Cathedral. The late Monsignor Paddy Gallagher directed a boys' choir in the 1970s, many of whom have continued singing as adults in St Muredach's Cathedral Choir. The present boys' choir sing at 7.30pm Mass in St Muredach's cathedral every month and have also sang in the basilica in Knock Shrine. The directors are Regina Deacy, Marie Gilvarry and Niamh Allen.

Crossmolina win by two points

Crossmolina made the long journey to Louisburgh on Saturday of last week a successful one with this hard earned two points win over the hosts. The Deel-siders lead at the break by four points 0-9 to 0-5 thanks to a string of points from Fionan Duffy, James Maheady, Paddy Leddy and Diarmuid Walsh. Louisburgh scores came from Kevin Gibbons, Darren Lally, Kieran Jennings, Padraic O’Malley and Oisin Lally. The crucial score, a goal, came in the third quarter from Diarmuid Walsh and with the west Mayo boys piling on the pressure late with Mark Gibbons, Dylan Reynolds, Kieran Jennings and Oisin Lally all putting their names on the score sheet, Crossmolina were struggling to hold on to their lead and were delighted to hear the final whistle. The final score was Louisburgh 0-15, Crossmolina 1-14.

County U16 league game

Crossmolina we most unlucky to lose this very entertaining County U16 league game in Tiernans Park on Monday of last week. A late goal from the South Mayo side in injury time secured them two valuable points. The final score was The Neale 2-12, Crossmolina 1-14.

Community Centre lotto

The numbers drawn in the Killala Community Centre lotto held on May 8 last were; 21, 26, 27 and 30. Consolation prizes went to Mary Whyte, Goretti Donnelly and A. Scott. The jackpot for May 15 was €6,750 and the numbers drawn were, 9, 14, 17 and 24. There was no jackpot winner on the night. The jackpot this Wednesday, May 22, is €6,800. Tickets are sold locally.

Meals on Wheels

Killala Community Centre provide a Meals on Wheels service to senior citizens or anyone in need of the service. The two course meal can be either collected at the centre for €7 or delivered to your home for €8. They deliver in the Killala, Lacken, Cooneal and Kilfian areas. A Mardi Gras parade is being organised as part of Killala Live festival this August. If you would like to get involved the organisers are looking for individuals, groups and clubs to take part in this colourful celebration of local community. A Knit Night will take place in Moygownagh Learning Forum on Thursday, May 23, and anybody interested in knitting are all welcome commencing at 7.30pm.

Church Grounds

Due to dog fouling on the church grounds and recent fouling and digging on graves, people are asked not to bring or allow dogs onto the church grounds. If anybody is visiting the cemetery, make sure that the gate remains closed at all times.
