St Louis Community School, Kiltimagh, recently raised €2,067 for Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation at a hospice coffee morning that ran alongside the opening of the new school library. The late Bridie Coyne

Bridie Coyne who died recently was a well-liked and much respected lady in the Kiltimagh community. Bridie passed away peacefully at the Mayo Hospice in Castlebar with her family at her bedside on October 26. Formerly of, Cloghans Hill, Tuam, Bridie trained as a nurse in Stoke on Trent and worked in Galway and Castlebar and in later years at the Sacred Heart Home, Castlebar.

In 1961 Bridie married Dermot Coyne from Shrule and they made Kiltimagh their home when they bought a retail outlet in the town. Coyne’s fancy goods, toys and confectionery shop was in a prime location beside St Louis Convent Schools and opposite the Parish Church and was a hive of activity at certain times of the day. Customers were always assured of a warm welcome by Bridie and Dermot who were always very helpful and treated them with the utmost courtesy and kindness.

Bridie was a lady of deep faith and had great devotion to Our Lady of Knock; she was a good friend to many, always ready to help others which she did as a handmaid at Knock Shrine and also took patients to Lourdes. She was involved with the local Women’s Group for a time and had a keen interest in the happenings in the community and in the street she shared with her neighbours and friends for so many years. She enjoyed her strolls around the town in the evenings meeting up with people and having a chat. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who was very proud of her family and who will be missed not only by them but by all who had the pleasure of knowing her over the years.

Predeceased by her husband Dermot, her parents John and Bridget, sisters Maureen and Rita and nephew Tommy, Bridie will be sadly missed by her son Shane, daughter Aoife, son-in-law Sean D and daughter-in-law Gretta, grandchildren Jack and Sarah, brothers Bob and Brendan and sister Nora, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and neighbours.

Reposing was at the home of her daughter Aoife and son-in-law Sean D Mahon in Oxford Cross, with removal to the Church of the Holy Family on Sunday morning for 11am Mass. Afterwards Bridie was laid to rest in Kilkinure Cemetery beside her beloved husband Dermot. May they rest in peace.

On Mayo duty

Kiltimagh Knock United was very well represented on Mayo girls teams as the inter-league series kicked off. The Mayo U16s were in Lecarrow to face home side Roscommon where Aoife Collins provided an assist for one goal and Kate Byrne and Melissa Clarke also featured. Mayo ran out 2-0 winners with KK's Michael Collins heading up the management team.

Siofra McGuinness gave her usual all-action contribution as the Mayo U15s came away from Letterkenny with a fantastic 3-2 win over Donegal.

Sive Flanagan and Ava Mitchell were in action for the Mayo U14s in their win over Roscommon. Sive provided an assist from a corner while Ava kept up her most impressive recent form by helping herself to four goals.

Michaela Kavanagh was very impressive for the Mayo U12s who faced Midlands in Tullamore. The youngest of all the Mayo sides came away with an emphatic 4-0 victory.
