Local Notes: Rhea May is honoured by Ballinrobe Musical Society

Ballinrobe Musical Society will stage the popular fairytale 'The Clockmaker's Daughter' in Ballinrobe Community School from Sunday, March 28, to Saturday, April 3, 2027. Auditions for principal roles in the show will take place on Sunday, November 29.

Declan Healy was the winner of the €10,300 lotto jackpot draw which was held in O’Malley’s Bar, on Monday, July 13. The winning numbers were 4, 5, 7 and 24.
There was no match three winner.
The jackpot was reset at €5,000 and that draw took place yesterday (Monday).
Last Tuesday at The Green, the Ballinrobe Town under-16 girls recorded a 3-0 victory against Fahy Rovers in the Premier Division. Sophia Place netted two goals, and her team-mate Ellen Masterson chipped in with a tidy goal.
Meanwhile, the under-18 boys team recorded an empathic 8-2 victory away to Ballyhaunis Town on Monday, July 13, in an entertaining Division One encounter. Johnny Cleary scored a hat-trick for the Robesiders, with Sam Place acquiring a brace of goals, whilst Karol Stachurski, Shay Philbin and Donnacha O’Connor all found the back of the net for the south Mayo side.
The Tacú Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe, has organised a get-together for people who avail of their facilities and their many friends in the local community.
The Friends of Tacú Summer Party will take place on Friday, July 24, in the Bowers Bar and Restaurant, at 2pm. The cost for the three-course meal is €20, and there will also be music provided on the afternoon. Those interested in attending are asked to contact 087-3802650.
A Colour Fun Run organised by the Tacú Family Resource Centre, and as part of the current Ballinrobe Festival, will take place on Wednesday, July 22. The meeting point is the entrance to the Bowers opposite the AIB Bank, Main Street, at 4.30pm, with the run commencing at 5pm and the cost to take part is €5 per-person.

There is a jam-packed series of events taking place in Ballinrobe this week as part of the Ballinrobe Festival. Some of the highlights during the week includes live music and concerts, mega bingo, drama performances, Heritage Day celebrations, guided tours and historical talks, afternoon tea, kayaking taster sessions on the River Robe, summer slime party, teddy bears picnic, kite making classes, pizza making demonstrations, fun colour run and much more.
A Sensory Space and Garden will be available throughout the festival located beside the Parish Centre and the festival committee would like to thank Ballinrobe’s A Space of Our Own Club for generously making their facilities available.
A variety of holistic and wellbeing events will also take place throughout the week at Bloom Studio, Church Lane, and across other venues in the town.
Heritage Day will take place in Cornmarket, on July 25, from 12 noon to 5pm. This is always a very popular event and will see heritage costumes, vintage displays and demonstrations, traditional Irish music and dancing, a town heritage trail, live farm, children’s entertainment, and much more take place on the day.
The Queen of the Lakes pageant will take place in the Pavilion at Ballinrobe Racecourse on Friday, July 24, at 7pm.
The organising committee are looking forward to welcoming visitors from near and far to Ballinrobe for what promises to be another memorable festival week.

Catherine McDonald was the winner of €105 in last week’s 50/50 draw conducted by the Tacú Family Resource Centre. Tickets can be purchased in the centre from Monday to Friday.
Cunga Cycling Club have organised a sportive leisure cycle on Sunday, August 9, with registration taking place on the day at the Crossroads Community Centre, Cong, from 8.30am to 9.15am.
The route will take place through the picturesque Connemara region, with options for different distances for those taking part. The proceeds are in aid of Cancer Fund for Children, Daisy Lodge.

There was no winner of the €5,200 lotto jackpot draw which was held in Garrymore, on Sunday, July 12. The numbers drawn were 17, 21, 23 and 24.
