The club’s U16 girls’ team played their opening Division One game of the season at The Green, on Tuesday last, when they hosted Kiltimagh/Knock United. Both sides played their part in what was an enthralling eight goal thriller, which ended 4-4.
The star of the show for Ballinrobe was hat-trick hero Tara Fitzpatrick, with her team-mate Sophia Place also chipping in with a fine goal. This week Ballinrobe Town will face their second fixture in Division One when they make the trek to Killala to face the hosts in what will be a tricky assignment in North Mayo.
The Ballinrobe Town U18 boys’ team made the ideal start in their opening league fixture of the new season when they defeated visiting Kiltimagh/Knock United 3-0 on Monday, July 8. The home side started brightly and very nearly scored a spectacular opening goal, but Theo Belanger’s rocket of a 25 yard strike was brilliantly saved by the United custodian.
The visitor’s resistance was eventually broken on 37 minutes, when Ben Place’s 30 yard curling free-kick rustled the back of the net and the hosts were now up and running. Just three minutes later, Place guided home another long-range strike and this ensured a healthy 2-0 interval lead for the Red and White.
The local’s sealed the deal on 70 minutes, courtesy of a smashing strike from Luke Muniz, much to the delight of the home bench. The U18’s next fixture is scheduled to take place on Monday, July 22, when they face Glenhest Rovers away from home.
