Swinford Golf Club hosted the Dick Crowley Cup over weekend of September 7 and 8. Barry ‘Goose’ Durkan clinched victory with an impressive score of 41 points, James Kilroy and Daniel Irwin followed, securing second and third places respectively in closely contested rounds. In the ladies' Áine McDonald Memorial, Dympna O’Donnell triumphed with 37 points, with Catherine Loftus and Hilary McCrohan completing the top three.
Men's top finishers: 1st Barry Durkan: 41 points, 2nd James Kilroy: 38 points and 3rd Daniel Irwin 36 points. Ladies' top finishers: 1st Dympna O'Donnell: 37 points, 2nd Catherine Loftus: 27 points and 3rd Hilary McCrohan: 26 points.
Adding to the weekend's success, Swinford Golf Club also celebrated a significant victory in the Connacht Shield, defeating Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club in a quarterfinal match on Sunday. Congratulations to all our participants and good luck in the semi-final.

Congratulations to Swinford native Martin Dyar whose poem The Enemy of Fear is to be added to the Kiltimagh Poetry Trail and unveiled on September 21. Meeting point is Market Square, Kiltimagh at 3pm then proceeding to the Emigrant Park reading other poems along the route. Afterwards retire to the Folk Cafe for refreshments, more readings, music and songs.

A Culture Night of traditional Irish song and dance will be held in the Thatch on September 20. It will be much like the Cois Tine but a bit more energetic and maybe a slightly younger audience. Doors open at 7pm with live entertainment starting at 7.30pm and ending around 9.30pm with a raffle prizes draw. The event is free and space is limited so people are advised to arrive early to secure a seat.

The death took place of Dolores Towey-Charlton, late of Aughadeffin, Kilmovee and also of Frenchpark, Co. Roscommon and Lucan, Co. Dublin on September 6, peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends at Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown. Dolores was predeceased by her parents John and Winifred and her siblings Tony, Eileen and Maureen and is survived by her daughter Donna, son David, grandchildren Zoe and Faye, Elijah and Lauren, brothers John and Fr Dominic, sister Una, partner Peter, son-in-law Rob, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.
Removal took place to St Mary’s Church, Lucan on Wednesday, September 11, arriving for Mass of the Resurrection at 10am followed by cremation in Newlands Cross Crematorium. May Dolores rest in peace.

The death took place at Sligo University Hospital on August 30 of John McDonagh, Cloonloo, Boyle, Co. Sligo. News of his passing was received with great sadness in his community and beyond where he was well-liked and popular. His remains reposed at Mahon's Funeral Home, Boyle on Thursday evening last and were removed to St. Joseph's Church, Cloonloo for the Funeral Mass at noon on Friday with burial afterwards in Templeronan Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Margaret and family Mike, Brendan, Paula, Shane and Ciara and their partners Aoife, Radka, Anthony, Tissi and Evan and grandchildren Shauna and Chloe, extended family, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended. May he rest in peace.
The death took place on September 3 of Aidan Foley, Drum, Athlone, and formerly of Shroofe, Monasteraden - retired an Garda Siochana. Predeceased by his parents Con and Madge, news of his untimely passing was received in his native Monasteraden with great sadness. He is survived by his wife Eleanor, sons David and Stephen, daughter Ellen, sisters Mary, Rita, Gina and Geraldine -brothers Sean, Neilus, Gerard, Kieran, extended family and many relatives and friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
