The death has taken place of Frank Melia, Pier Road, Enniscrone, Co Sligo and formerly of Fenian Row, Ballina, peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends at Sligo University Hospital. Frank was predeceased by his parents Paddy and Alice and brother Stephen. He was the beloved husband of Caroline and loving father of Adrian (UK) and Paul (Enniscrone), and he will also be sadly missed by his brothers PJ, Dermot, John and Martin, sister Kitty Cotter, Adrians partner Lisa, in-laws, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Frank reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina on Thursday evening, December 4, from 5.30 until 7pm. Removal took place from his residence on Friday morning, December 5, at 11.30am to the Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Enniscrone for requiem Mass at 12 noon followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass. May he rest in peace.
Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC extended their deepest condolences to Caroline Melia and Frank’s sons Adrian and Paul, on the death of Frank last week. Their thoughts are also with his extended family, friends and neighbours at this sad time. Frank Melia played for Enniscrone Utd FC from 1985 to 1987 and made over 30 appearances for the club as full back. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
The Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Club held its annual general meeting in Quigabar on Friday night, November 28, in front of a large attendance. Outgoing chairperson Declan Rouse opened the meeting before reports were delivered on the club’s activities over the past year.
In his address, Declan reflected on a progressive 12 months in which there were a number of milestones, such as the U13 team claiming a league and championship double at ‘A’ level, the Intermediate team reaching the championship final, the purchase of land for use as a new training pitch at Quigabar and the hosting of the county senior final.
In what was his final address as chairperson, Declan thanked all those involved over the course of his tenure and assured the club of his continued support moving forward.
Alan Hargadon delivered his secretary’s report, thanking all of those who played, coached or volunteered in any capacity during the year. Alan also provided the meeting with a detailed account of the club’s performances across all age groups during the course of 2025.
Mark Gordon, who has assumed the treasurers role provided the meeting with a comprehensive report of the clubs financial affairs in a year which included significant investment in club facilities, including the purchase of land and the upgrade of the car park surface.
The election of officers then took place, with the following elected as the committee for the coming year: Patrons, Fr George McHale, Eddie Harte, Joe Quinn, and Oliver Bourke; president Liam Cawley; vice president PJ Kavanagh; chairperson Shane Hargadon; vice chairperson Greg Regan; secretary Alan Hargadon; assistant secretary TBC; treasurer Mark Gordon; assistant treasurer Mary O’Hara Bourke and Joe Cawley (Development); PRO David Tuffy and Cathal Mullaney; county board delegate Brendan Murray; oifigeach Gaeilge Cathal O’Malileanaigh; registrar/membership Brian Coleman and Maurice Sweeney; grants and funding Declan Rouse, Peter Regan and Joe Cawley; pitch and grounds facilitator Kenny Roberts; pitch committee Liam Cawley, Mixie Jacob, Robert Jacob, David Tuffy, Johnny Mullaney, Oliver Bourke, PJ Kavanagh, Dessie Gray, Derek Tuffy, Aidan Deehan; schools/coaching co-ordinator John Paul Carden; blotto co-ordinator Brian Coleman.
This means there is a unique double at the top table, with brothers Shane and Alan Hargadon occupying the chairperson and secretary positions. Mark Gordon has taken over the mantle of treasurer from Clair Beglin Duffy.
The club extend a sincere thanks to all outgoing officers for their efforts and wish the new committee well for 2026.
Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Club have confirmed the date of their two Christmas events which will be taking place in the coming weeks. The popular charity Tractor/Vehicle Run will take place on Sunday, December 21, starting at Quigabar and then on December 27, the club will hold their charity match and annual awards in the clubhouse. The minor team of 1975 will also be honoured, 50 years on from their championship success.
Well done to the Sligo schools side on their win over their Leitrim counterparts in the Connacht ‘A’ Championship which was played at Quigabar on Friday, November 28. Niall Duffy, Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Club contributed four points, while Shane Murphy started at corner back. Aaron Bourke was introduced off the bench and Rory Tuffy and Luke Tuffy are also part of the panel. Their next assignment is away to Claregalway on Friday.
Students of Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone touched down in the beautiful city of Lille on Tuesday of last week, kicking off an unforgettable week of cultural immersion. They were warmly welcomed by their French host families and enjoyed a fantastic reception with Ms O’Shea and Mr Lourdel of Lycee Saint Paul.
During the week, the students experienced French family life, attended classes in a new school environment, and they dived head-first into the French language – all thanks to the incredible opportunities provided through Erasmus.
The school extend thanks to Ms Fleming for her hard work in organising and accompanying the students on this amazing journey, as they made memories that will last a lifetime while learning and exploring.
The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on Sunday, November 30, were 10, 25 and 40. The €25 prizewinners were Shane Grimes, Elaine Naughton, Mark O’Connor, and Cathal Mullaney. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Sunday, December 7, was €9600.
The annual general meeting of Enniscrone Golf Club CLG will take place on Thursday, December 11, at 7pm, in the Diamond Coast Hotel. All members are invited to attend.
The Enniscrone Christmas Market continues on Saturday, December 13, and 20 with lots of food, treats, crafts and gifts on offer, at the Old Church, Main Street, Enniscrone, from 11am to 3pm. The community centre had a very successful evening on Saturday, November 29, for the lighting of the Christmas Tree of Remembrance, thanks to everyone who made it so special. The Hub will open after Mass on Christmas Eve for tea/coffee and the opportunity to spend a moment at the tree and meet up with friends and family.

The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on Saturday, November 29, were 3, 27, 32 and 40. There was no jackpot winner and the match 3 winner was Pat and Josephine Tuffy. The lucky dip winner of €50 was Castleconnor Community Council. The jackpot in the latest draw held on December 6, was€14,800.
