Ballaghaderreen GAA Club AGM

There was a good attendance at annual general meeting of Ballaghaderreen GAA Club which was held on November 26, at the clubhouse. The following officers were elected for 2024. Calendar Full of Hearts for charity

Community Art Group Ballaghaderreen have made a calendar for 2024 full of hearts in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. It is for sale for €8 in nine shops in Ballaghaderreen. The images come from the 10x10 cm canvases the art group made for their HeArt4U project. They were displayed during the Ballaghdream Festival this summer. Now, the canvases have been wrapped in cellophane and are being distributed in Ballaghaderreen and further afield for people to find and take home. With the calendar, even more people are able to enjoy them. The shops are BB hair, Brian Mulligan's, First Class Office/School Supplies, Imelda Towey's, Michael Mulligan's, Molloy’s Pharmacy, Newsround, Padraig Mulligan's and SuperValu. The calendar makes a lovely Christmas present and the proceeds go to a good cause.

GAA Club 50/50 draw

The Ballaghaderreen GAA club 50/50 draw took place on Sunday, December 10, in Clarkes Bar. The jackpot of €740 was won by Owen and Agnes Conway, Castlerea Rd. and the seller was Saturday Night Team. Tickets can be purchased at various outlets in the town. An annual 50/50 ticket for €100 would be an ideal gift for Christmas giving entry into every draw for 2024 and they are available from committee members. Let Love Shine a Light Christmas cards

Remember a loved one living or deceased this Christmas by sponsoring a light on the tree at Knock Shrine. Shine a Light cards are available in local chemists or from Kathleen Rushe on 087 4156033 at a cost of €5 each. Christmas cards packs are also available for €6 for a pack of 12 cards.

Soccer Club 50/50 draw

The Soccer Club 50/50 weekly draw took place on Tuesday, December 12, at the Community Park Clubhouse. The jackpot of €290 was won by John Dempsey, Dalton Tce and the seller was Mannion’s Bar. The next draw takes place this evening, Tuesday, December 19, at the Community Park Clubhouse. A Christmas bonus draw for three annual tickets will take place after the main draw. Ballaghaderreen FC thank all who support the weekly draw, also all the premises and outlets that sell the tickets and the club wish everyone a very happy Christmas and good health for the new year. Men on the Move meet every Wednesday at 8pm in The Community Park. Everyone is welcome to come along.

Flourish Social Prescribing Service in conjunction with the HSE and delivered through The Family Centre, Castlebar, is now available in the Kilmovee and East Mayo area. Lisa is the link worker in the area and is available to confidentially meet you to discuss ways in which you can connect with your local community. Do you sometimes feel your life could be more enjoyable? Have you recently experienced a change in life such as; retirement, health issue, becoming a parent, change in employment, new to your area, relationship changes etc? If so, Flourish maybe for you. Flourish will also be running programmes in the East Mayo area over the Autumn/Winter period such as ‘The John Hoban Music Circle’, ‘Introduction to Journalling workshop’, ‘Reconnect to Wellbeing’, walk and talk groups and more. Coleman Music Centre

Bingo is held in Gurteen Hall every Friday night at 8pm. The jackpot stands at €1,800 in forty-five calls or less, the lotto raffle jackpot is €650, and there is also a 50/50 split. All support appreciated.

The annual general meeting of Ballaghaderreen Golf Club took place on November 23, in the clubhouse. The following officers were elected for 2024. Men’s captain Danny Browne; Men’s vice captain, Conor Sweeney; Lady captain Sarah McDonagh; Lady vice captain: Eithne McGarry; president Michael Towey; chairperson John Freeman; secretary Helen Curran; treasurer James Dooney; course manager Martin Duffy; registrar Brendan Cox; committee Anne O’Brien, Eoin Buckley, Gerry Cooney, Breege Flanagan, Patricia Reid and Pauline Gibbons. The club thanked outgoing officers Maura Madden, Sean Kavanagh, Paul McLoughlin, Pauline Gibbons and Colm Flannery for making 2023 such a successful golfing year for the club.

Magazine launch 2023 on TV Ireland show

The very successful 17th edition of Kilkelly Kilmovee parish magazine launch that was held at Ireland West Airport on Sunday, October 29, will be broadcast by Henry McGlade on his TV Ireland Show on Ayozat TV Sky Channel 186 this Thursday, December 21 at 7pm. It can also be watched live online at https://www.ayozat.com/live-tv/ayozat-tv. There are a very limited amount of magazines available for sale locally. It would make a lovely Christmas gift to send home or abroad this year.

The late Margaret Regan

The death took place of Margaret Regan, Erritt, Castlerea, peacefully in Mayo University Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was predeceased by her father Tommie and her uncle Martin Regan, both of whom were natives of Culcastle, Kilmovee.

Margaret is sadly missed by her mother Mary, extended family, neighbours and friends. She reposed in her home on Friday, December 1, with removal on Saturday, December 2, to St Mary's Church, Gorthaganny, for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon followed by interment in the local cemetery. May Margaret rest in peace as deepest sympathy is offered to all who are bereaved by her passing.

Bingo was held on Sunday, December 17, in Kilmovee Community Centre at 8.30pm. Please note that there will be no bingo in Kilmovee on Sunday, December 24 or December 31. Bingo in KIilmovee returns on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at 8.30pm. The committee thank their loyal patrons, your support is very much appreciated. Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA club lotto and membership packages for 2024 are now available from club officers and online. Everyone who purchases a ticket before December 22, will be included in the Christmas Draw which will be held in The Four Ways Pub on December 23, where one lucky person will win €1000 on the night. The late Margaret Carroll (née Keane)

The death took place of Margaret Carroll (née Keane), Sligo Road, Ballaghaderreen, on December 7, peacefully surrounded by her family at The Oakwood Nursing Home, Ballaghaderreen. Margaret was pre-deceased by her husband Vincent, and is sadly missed and remembered by her son Peadar, daughters Marie, Mairead and Grainne, sister Bridget, grandchildren Alan, Rachael, Sam and Anna, sons-in-law Pierce and Paul, Peadar's partner Nora, relatives, neighbours and friends. Margaret was removed from The Sharkey Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen, on Saturday, December 9, at 11.45am to St Nathy’s Cathedral to arrive for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon, followed by interment in Kilcolman cemetery. May Margaret rest in peace as deepest sympathy is offered to all who are bereaved by her passing.
