The McManus family kindly donated a plaque to the club and on Saturday last, October 5, Oisin Corcoran was named 2023/24 season Player of the Year. Oisin played on the U14 and U15 teams last season before signing for Sligo Rovers U14 team. The club extend congratulations to Oisin who becomes the 3rd winner of the award.

Scary Woods Walk at Kilglass House and Woodland

Go along if you are brave enough to Kilglass House and Woodland F26H685 on Thursday, October 31 from 10am to 2pm for the Scary Woods Walk. Entry is €2 per person. Why not dress up and get into the Halloween spirit and be prepared for a few spooky surprises along the way. It is not recommended for very small children, however, for children aged 0-5 years, the woods will be open from 9am to 10am and 2-3pm with no hidden surprises, just artwork/props. So feel free to bring them along between those times if you feel they are too young for the Scary Woods Walk.

Conservation work starting on Enniscrone Castle

The stonemasons have begun the conservation work on the castle. There is extensive scaffolding up around the chimney stack and the two towers. Once that was in place the conservation architect, the archaeologist, an engineer, the contractor and the stonemason carried out a detailed inspection of the structure’s condition and made decisions on the specific works required. On close inspection a lot of the original mortar has been weather eroded and some of the stones are somewhat insecure.

Phase 1 of the conservation work will include repointing of the chimney stack, re-establishing the chimney tops, securing loose stonework, and underpinning a section of the north wall, all with best practice and minimal intervention to the existing structure.

This work is being funded by grant aid from the Community Monument Funding Scheme, officiated by The National Monuments Service. The 100% funding scheme has been of major benefit not only to Enniscrone but to many heritage conservation projects throughout the country and Enniscrone and District Community Council extend thanks to Malcolm Noonan TD, Minister of State for Nature Heritage and Electoral Reform for its availability. They hope that similar funding will be available again next year to begin Phase 2 of the conservation works required for the castle.
