Castleconnor GAA club extend thanks to Muddy Burns who was main club sponsor last year and for sponsoring jerseys for the senior team this year. The late John Clarke

The death took place of John Clarke, 'Swan House', Easkey and formerly of Boston, USA suddenly at home. He was predeceased by his mother Anna Clarke. John was the beloved brother of Edward, Harold and Evan and he will be sadly missed by his brothers, nephew Herram, cousins, relatives and a large circle of friends.

John reposed at McGowan's Funeral Home, Ballina, on Thursday evening, July 4, from 7.30pm with removal at 8.30 to St James's Church, Easkey. Requiem Mass was held on Friday morning at 11am followed by burial in Roslea Cemetery, Easkey. May he rest in peace.

Biodiversity Action Plan 2024-2030

Sligo Heritage Office want to hear your views on protecting and enhancing the biodiversity of County Sligo, and they are inviting submissions on the pre-draft phase of the County Sligo Biodiversity Action Plan 2024-2030. A public information session and talk will take place at Enniscrone Library on Friday, July 12, from 1-4pm with a short talk at 3.30pm. The late Pauline Kerrigan

The death has occurred of Pauline Kerrigan, Archers Cottages, Easkey, at Sligo University Hospital. Pauline was predeceased by her mother Loretta and she was the beloved mother of Rachel. She will be sadly missed by her loving daughter, father Murie, brother Bryan, nieces, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.

Pauline reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Friday, June 28, from 8 to 9.30pm and her funeral arrived at St James’s church, Easkey on Saturday morning for 11am Requiem Mass followed by burial in Roslea Cemetery, Easkey. May she rest in peace.

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs which was held on Sunday, June 28, was 10, 15 and 20. There was no jackpot winner. The €25 prizewinners were Anthony Reape, Mickey Bourke, N&C Regan, and Michael and Mary Weir. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Sunday, July 7, in The Pilot Bar was €5600.

Women’s Social Soccer

Eoghan Rua Ladies lotto

The numbers drawn in the weekly Eoghan Rua Ladies lotto which was held on July 1, were 8, 12, 27 and 36. The €30 consolation prizewinners were Mary Boland, Mary Brennan, Stephen and Mary Conway, Gerard Keavney, and Joe Rolston. The jackpot in the draw which was held on July 8, was €15,700.

Emily on U18 7’s squad

Congratulations to 6th year student of Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, who was selected for the Ireland U18 7’s squad which travelled to France last week.

Community Games

Congratulations to the Enniscrone Kilglass Community Games medal winners who smashed it at the county athletics final in Sligo last week. Kiaer won gold in the U6 60m; Chroia won silver in the U8 60m; Roisin won silver in the U10 200m; Phelim took home silver in the U12 Throw Ball; Brendan won silver in the U12 600m; Ryan got silver in the U14 100m; Mae won bronze in the U14 Long Puck; and Phelim, Tom, Matthew, Brendan and Seimi won bronze in the U12 relay.

Summer Camp 2024

Bookings for the Waterpoint Summer Camp 2024 is now open. There will be three days of fun filled activities such as swimming, outdoor activities, rock climbing and arts and crafts. The camps which run from 10am to 3pm are suitable for children aged 6+ and costs €55 per week. For booking contact 096 36999 or bookingswaterpoint@gmail.com. Full pre-payment must be given upon booking. Week 1 is from July 30 to August 1; Week 2, August 6 to 8; Week 3, August 13 to 15; and Week 4, August 20 to 22.

Water Safety Week

Water Safety Week with Water Safety Ireland, Sligo, will take place at Enniscrone Pier from July 21-26. This programme is Water Safety Ireland Certified and children will be taught essential lifesaving skills through theory and practical sessions.

Swim 1-5 is introduction to open water swimming and basic safety skills and is suitable for children aged 5+. Safety 1-4 is the introduction to personal safety and rescue skills and Rescue 1-4 entails rescue techniques and basic life support certification on completion of exam. ‘Girls Only’ Summer Camp at KEUFC

KEUFC have in recent years been making great strides in promoting soccer for girls and women in West Sligo, and they are delighted to host two Summer Camps this year, with the first camp being a ‘Girls Only’ camp which runs from July 15-19. The ‘Girls Only’ camp is designed to empower young girls, to nurture self-esteem and provide a space for self-expression. This is the only ‘Girls Only’ camp in all of Connacht. The camp is open to girls aged 6 to 14 and the cost is €75, which includes a camp jersey and football. Charity Sound Bath

A Charity Sound Bath in aid of Mayo Cancer Support will be held on Wednesday, July 17, from 6.30-7.30pm and 8-9pm, at Abhainn Studio, Pier Road, Enniscrone. There are limited numbers for each session and booking is essential. €30 donation.

Beach Toy Library returns

Enniscrone Tidy Towns have put out their freshly painted Toy Library boxes on Enniscrone beach. There are buckets and spades available for children to borrow and play with in the sand. Just remember to leave them back in the box before going home. If you find toys abandoned on the beach please drop them into the box for others to play with. This is one example of sustainability, don’t dump, don’t waste, recycle and reuse. All that is needed is good, warm and bright sunny beach days.

Summer Pool session timetable

The new updated Summer pool session timetable at Waterpoint is as follows: Monday to Friday 9-10am adults only (lanes), 10.30-12 noon, 12.30-2pm, 2.30-4pm, 4.30-6pm (Monday to Thursday) and 6.30-7.45pm (Monday to Thursday). On Friday from 4.30-6.30pm Inflatable. The timetable for Saturday and Sunday is 11am-12.30pm, 1-2.30pm, 3-4.30pm. Easkey Kids Summer Camp

West Sligo Family Resource Centre are bringing their children Summer Camp back to Easkey on July 10 and 11 for children aged 6-8 years from 10am to 11.30am and children aged 9-12 years from 12 noon to 1.30pm. Cemetery Mass

Cemetery Mass will be celebrated in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass/Enniscrone, on August Bank Holiday Weekend, Sunday, August 4, at 6pm; in Roslea Cemetery, Easkey, on Friday, August 2, at 7pm and in Dromore West Churchill Cemetery on August 4, at 12 noon.

Indoor Food and Craft Market

The Indoor Food and Craft Market will continue each Saturday in The Old Church, Enniscrone, from 11am to 3pm. It features a wide range of handmade gifts, paintings, home baking, fresh vegetables, bric a brac and local crafts.

Bingo

Bingo is held in the Old Church, Enniscrone, every Tuesday at 8pm with doors opening at 7pm with free tea and coffee on offer. The proceeds are in aid of Western Gaels Hurling and Camogie Club. All are welcome to come along and support, and be in with a chance to win.

Miggy Moo’s Summer Camp

Bookings are now open for Miggy Moo’s Summer Camps, which will run from July 22 to 25, and August 19 to 22, at Castleconnor Community Centre, from 9.30am to 1.30pm. There are limited spaces and people are encouraged to book early by emailing marieskidscamps@gmail.com. The cost is €60 per child.

GAA lotto

The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on June 29 last were 7, 11, 13 and 32. There was two match three winners Monica McHale and Eimear Tuffy and they won €150 each. The lucky dip winner of 50 was Kieran Holmes. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on July 7, was €22,300.

U18 championship win

Castleconnor GAA U18’s began their championship with a hard fought victory over Coolaney Mullinabreena last week with a final scoreline of 3-19 to 3-09. The team on duty were; Diarmuid Feeney, Niall Holmes, Adam O’Connor, Darragh Harrison (0-1), Fionn Gordon (0-4), Conor Stenson (0-2), Jason O’Regan (0-1), Thomas Sheridan (0-1), TJ Foody, Kevin Ruttledge (3-2), Senan Healy, Ben Cawley (0-2), Kyle Sexton (0-4), Oran McGranaghan, Michael Reape (0-2), Finnan Gavin, and Ruairi Mahoney.

Castleconnor Handball Club

Well done to TJ Foody, Castleconnor Handball Club, on winning the U17A softball Connaught Championship. TJ took on Kilkennys James Kenny on Sunday last, July 7, in the All Ireland semi-final, which was played in Collooney Handball Alley.
