Siamsa Sraide 40th Anniversary

Congratulations are extended to the Siamsa Sraide committee on the very successful 40th Siamsa Sraide Festival held in Swinford from August 2 to 7. The town was alive with visitors and locals with a varied array of events taking place to suit all ages and interests.

To organise such an event takes time, effort and dedication as well as co-operation from community groups and the community at large. This support was very evident in the lead up to and during the festival. Well done to everyone involved.

Kellys Walk 2 Rome

The epic journey from Canterbury to Rome 2200kms continues through Switzerland. Last week saw Cathal crossed the border from France into Switzerland after 953kms accompanied by his great friend from home Danny Cassidy. The last few days also saw the milestone of 1000kms being reached. The continued support from home and Swinford people all over the world is amazing and very much appreciated. The support received from the stand at Siamsa Sraide and the Siamsa Fun Run with Swinford AC was also outstanding and very much appreciated particularly by the two charities Mayo Parkinson's Association and Childrens Health Foundation Crumlin. This week also sees the Swinford Golf senior ladies committee hold a two day competition in aid of Kelly’s Walk 2 Rome. All this support and more shows what a wonderful community we have. This weekend Cathal will cross the Alps through the famous Great St Bernard's Pass and walk into Italy. For more details visit kellyswalk2rome.ie and all social media channels.

The chief concelebrant Fr Joseph Gavigan PP assisted by Fr Farrell Cawley, Fr Vincent Sherlock (former PP’s), Fr Dan O'Mahony (parish native), Fr Gerard Davey Adm, Carracastle, and Fr Tom Mulligan (former curate Kilkelly). Bishop Kevin Doran sent his apologies due to being out of the country on Pilgrimage. A huge crowd gathered with some travelling very long distances to be present and Fr Gavigan in his homily drew attention to the fact of the deep sense of faith of the people both in the past and in the present in the parish of Kilmovee. Some people walked from Urlaur to retrace the steps of the many people who in past years walked to Mass in Glann when there was no church in Urlaur.
