Defibrillator is now in position
Belmullet Tidal Pool is delighted to finally be able to get the defibrillator up on the wall at The Tidal Pool Car Park. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported them in both the purchasing of the defibrillator in memory of Niall and Tisha Murphy and purchasing of the solar box to protect and keep the defibrillator safe and in good working condition in its position along Shore Road. The Belmullet Tidal Pool group and Vermillion contributed to the cost of the cabinet.
Awards night
Kilmore United FC awards night 2023 is now put to the archives and what a night it was recently. The organising committee extended huge thanks to all of the generous sponsors, to Teresa Whelan, Ray Whelan and all the gang at the Bing for once again being fantastic hosts; to Quinn Neary for providing the brilliant live music again; and to Tom at Takemeshnap for coming and taking all the videos and photos (the bleep machine was under pressure).
Congratulations to all the winners on the night and a special thanks to the two Mayo GAA stars Ryan O’Donoghue and Eoghan McLaughlin (not Oisín) for presenting some of the awards and joining in the celebrations.
Assisting dolphins in Belmullet
Ballyglass RNLI Inshore Lifeboat launched to assist dolphins in Belmullet on November 2. Volunteer members of the local Mayo Irish Whale and Dolphin Group raised the alarm after observing the mammals in receding waters close to Belmullet, in the Broadhaven end of town this afternoon.
They RNLI came to the assistance of the large Bottlenose dolphins as their survival was compromised in their location. Under the command of helm Allen Murray, with volunteer crew Ryan Geraghty and Seán Reilly, the Clann Lir R.I.B launched at 16.08 soon after receiving the call.
Advised by IWDG’s national live Stranding’s Coordinator Gemma O’Connor, the crew were able to assist an independent juvenile dolphin to make it safely back to deeper water. The lifeboat was ready for service by 1800hrs.
Sheep shearing course
George Graham will be holding a sheep shearing course on a Saturday and Sunday in December, at a location in Bangor Erris and the fee is €150. This is a certified course and registered by the Irish Government. Contact Ollie with your name and contact details for registering on:- 087 247 5002.
‘Lets celebrate community’
Ballyglass RNLI says a massive thanks to Aileen Howard from Brogans Eurospar in Belmullet. Aileen was in touch with them this week to say they were the winners of “let’s celebrate community” event. EUROSPAR supermarkets all across Ireland were asking their customers to nominate a local charity, group or organisation – explaining how it goes above and beyond for the community – to be in with a chance of winning €1,000 for their nominated community group.
Ballyglass RNLI were nominated a number of times at Brogans Eurospar and were the eventual winners. Brogans Eurospar has been long standing supporters of the service with three generations of the Brogan family sponsoring, donating, and promoting the service down through the years, a local business supporting a local service. This is what community spirit is all about. Thanks to Aaron Flannery and family for nominating the service for the award.

The draw was held on November 5, and the numbers drawn were; 3, 5, 6, and 7 for a jackpot of €10,600 and no winner. The house prize of €100 was won by Kristen Doherty, Stonefield and the 2 x €30 offline winners were Elisha McGrath, Milltown and Kevin Ginnelly, Gorthmellia. The €30 online winners were Jo Croghan, Roscommon and Vincent Doherty, Carratigue. Next week’s jackpot is €10,700 with draw will be held in Belderrig Community Centre.

Cill Chomáin Bord na nÓg presentation evening will be held on November 18, at 3pm in Healy’s Hall Glenamoy with presentation of medals and trophies to all U6 to U14.

170th anniversary celebration
Come along and celebrate the 170th Anniversary of the Holy Family Church on December 30, with Mass at 6pm and later a dinner dance in the Mulranny Park Hotel. Karate Iorrais
Karate Iorrais was delighted that Keith Burns, KUGB and chief instructor of Kaizen Karate in Newcastle, England, came over for the weekend of November 4 and 5, in St Brendan’s College Hall. Karate Iorrais was months in the making, and they were delighted and excited to have their plans come to fruition. Keith is a 6th Dan instructor. He has won numerous medals at national and international levels. He was the youngest karate instructor grading for 1st Dan at 16 years old under his 9th Dan examiner Sensei Keinosuke Enodea from Japan.
On day one of the weekend seminars, thank you so much to Sensei Keith for three energetic classes. It was really informative and lots of helpful tips and tactics to be taken on-board. Special thanks to Eddie, Colin and Vivienne for making the journey.
On day 2 they were filled with a mix of happiness and sadness. Happiness in that we were delighted to have met Sensei Keith and have had the privilege to learn under his vast knowledge and expertise. Sadness in the fact that he has to go home! They had an incredible weekend. There was wonderful feedback from all the participants, whether beginners or black belts, which is a testament to Sensei Keith’s amazing ability to connect with all. Thank you to everyone who supported the club they are so grateful and thanks again to St Brendan’s College for the use of their fantastic hall.

Erris Utd news
The much anticipated club awards for the 2023 season will be held in the function room of the Broadhaven Bay Hotel on next Friday, November 17, beginning at 7pm. It has been a memorable and successful season on a number fronts at various age levels.
The club annual general meeting will be held in the IWA Centre in Logmore on December 2, beginning at 6pm and the club welcomes new members and volunteers.
First Aid course
Bangor Hibs FC has invited Mayo Sports Partnership to run a First Aid course in Bangor Parish Hall. This First Aid course is on Saturday, November 18, from 9am to 4pm.
Free Disability Awareness Training
Free Disability Awareness Training will be held on Wednesday, November 15, from 10am to 1pm in Aras Inis Gluaire. This training helps individuals get an understanding of inclusion and diversity in the workplace, school and communities. This workshop provides an interactive and engaging training, with practical activities that provide some understanding of what inclusion, or lack of, might feel like. There was no winner of this week’s Kiltane GAA Club weekly lotto jackpot of €10,000 with the two €50 winners being Yvonne Sweeney, Roy and Frank McDonagh while B Cosgrove, Roy and Mary Snee, Dooyork both won €25.
