Local notes: Michael Corcoran, Ballintubber, raises €4068 for Irish Cancer Society

Michael Corcoran, Ballintubber and Hollymount has extended thanks to all who supported his recent Dublin City Marathon run for the Irish Cancer Society where a total of €4,068 was raised. Special thanks have been extended to Ballintubber, Garrymore and Hollymount/ Carramore GAA Clubs for their generous donations.
Ballintubber GAA Club is offering a lucky winner the chance to earn €1,000 a week for a year after launching their ‘Win €52K’ fundraiser on Friday night week last. The special guest James Horan, local Mayo County Council representatives and club members were present to launch the fundraiser which will see the lucky winner claim a cash prize of €52,000 paid out at €1,000 per week into their account. The club intends to use the proceeds raised to install flood lighting at Ray Prendergast Memorial Park in Clogher and for the development of their underage structures.
Pat Barrett, Cathaoirleach of the club said the ‘Win €52k’ fundraiser would support the ongoing development of the club’s facilities. ‘Our club caters for a number of other clubs and organisations including Carnacon LGFA, Ballintubber Bulls Basketball Club, Ballintubber Cycling Club, Killawalla Badminton club and the Over 55s group who use our facilities. Installing floodlights in Clogher will be a priority making the pitch accessible all year round. Between Ballintubber club and Carnacon LGFA, our pitches are used by over 15 teams’.
‘Ballintubber have done incredible work throughout the years and now have some of the best training facilities in the county’. Special guest James Horan said ‘I am delighted to support this fundraiser and would encourage everyone to support it to ensure the club maintains its health and success in the years ahead’.

Ballintubber GAA Club has announced the appointment of Tom Mulderrig as the new senior team manager for 2024. The GAA Club and community wish Tom, his backroom team and all the club players the very best of luck in 2024. The club has extended thanks to Cathal Hallinan and Damien Coleman, their coaches and backroom team for all their hard work, dedication and professionalism shown in 2023.
Ballintubber Abbey Christmas Concert will take place on this Thursday, December 14, at 8pm. Ballintubber Abbey Choir and Mayo Male Voice Choir invite you to their 3rd Christmas Concert in Ballintubber Abbey. This event began in 2019 as a memorial concert to a dear friend Marcus RIP who was a member of both choirs and following its success the Christmas Concert has become a much enjoyed annual event. Free admission but donations afterwards will go towards Ballintubber Abbey new development. A large turnout is anticipated.
Kate Heneghan and Friends will host an evening concert on Thursday, December 21, at 8pm in Ballintubber Abbey. Donations on night will go to Ballintubber Abbey new development in honour of Jo and Des Thornton R.I.P. Tickets are priced at a modest €20 each.
The Ballintubber GAA weekly lotto draw took place on Sunday night, December 3. 16, 18, 21 and 33 were the numbers drawn and the consolation prize winners were Mike Murphy, Maura Cuffe, John Heneghan, Emma and Daniel Kavanagh, Sheila Staunton and Marie Duffy.The draw for last weekend’s on December 10, was for a jackpot of €7,700.
Ballintubber U21s lost to an impressive Parke/Keelogues/Crimlin team in Clogher on Sunday week on a scorline of 3-16 to 3-6 in the U21 “B” quarter final.
The young U-21 side had been undefeated prior to that delivering two impressive showings against Castlebar Mitchell’s and Burrishoole.
The numbers drawn from the drum on Monday, December 4, were 2, 30, 31 and 32. There was no winner of the jackpot of €4,800 and no match 3 winner. Consolation prizes went to Kathleen Killeen, Eileen McHale, Katie Loftus, Caroline Malone (Towerhill), Brian, Niamh and Peter Killeen. The weekend jackpot was €4,900.
The fourth and final storytelling evening in the series titled, ‘what’s the story’, took place in Ballyglass Community Centre. Senem Donatan was guest storyteller on the night. The death has occurred of Josephine (Jo) Golden (nee O'Connell) Moyhenna, Breaffy and formerly of Kilmactranny, Co. Sligo. Josephine was a native of Knocklong, Co. Limerick and she passed away peacefully in the wonderful care of Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home, Castlebar. Predeceased by her husband Matt, son Kevin, daughter Nancy, granddaughter Serena, grandson Gerard and son-in-law Sean Carney, she is deeply regretted by her sons Michael (Claremorris), Gerard (Boyle), Martin (Castlebar), daughters Marian (UK), Angela (Dublin), Carmel (Swinford), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

All the arrangements are now in place for Santa’s visit to Clogher Heritage Centre on Sunday, December 17, from 2.30 to 4.30. As he is so busy at this time of year he is on a tight schedule and all the time slots have been booked up but there will be other activities for the children and teas and coffees for the adults. All the proceeds from this event will go to Mayo Autism Camp. A fun day is guaranteed for all.
