Dolores O'Malley carried the Book of Remembrance, the roll of honour for organ donors in which their names are inscribed, to the altar. Her daughter Orla became an organ donor at the age of 18 when she passed away in a tragic car accident in 2017. 

Mayo organ donor families participate in IKA Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving

Members of the families of deceased organ donors attended the IKA's 39th Annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving recently including Dolores O'Malley from Cross whose daughter Orla became an organ donor at the age of 18 when she passed away in a tragic car accident in 2017 and also the Jordan family from Bohola, Co Mayo who attended to remember Stephen Jordan who passed away in December 2023 age 42 years. The Service will be broadcast on RTÉ One (and RTÉ Player) on Sunday, November 17, at 11am.

The late Liam O’Malley

Liam O’Malley, Cregduff, Ballinrobe and formerly of Cornmarket, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo,died peacefully at the Mayo Hospice after an illness bravely borne with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his beloved son Martin, father George and brother Patrick. Liam is deeply regretted by his loving wife Mags, son Colm, grandson Martin, his loving mother Margaret, siblings John, Brendan, Peter, Clare, James, Ronan and Nola, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends. Burial took place on Monday, October 14, in the New Cemetery, Ballinrobe. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

The Ballinrobe Women’s Shed Group thank Ballinrobe Town AFC for their kind donation of €500 from their Santa run last Christmas.

Christmas Shoe Box Appeal

Team Hope thank everyone who would like to contribute to this year’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal, whether it is by filling a shoebox or donations to purchase items to add to shoeboxes. Chocolate or liquids cannot be added to the shoebox. The organisers would appreciate if boxes can be delivered to them as soon as possible. Living Well

Living Well is a free HSE programme which helps people living with a long-term health condition to manage their condition and improve their overall wellbeing. The next programme in Ballinrobe will commence this coming Thursday, October 31. Ballinrobe Community School

The schools LC1 and LC2 French students recently enjoyed four days in Paris. They were extremely lucky to have some warm autumn sunshine to help appreciate the beautiful sights of Paris. The trip had something for all tastes: a guided tour of the city; a cruise on the River Seine; some panoramic views of Paris from La Tour Montparnasse - the highest tower in central Paris; a fabulous afternoon discovering the Basilique du Sacré Coeur and Monmartre; a day in Disneyland Paris for the thrill seekers, followed by retail therapy in Val d'Europe shopping centre; a morning in Museée d'Orsay, and finally a tour of the Stade de France.

The trip gave students the opportunity to hear and speak French as well as aspects of some of their other subjects: Geography, Business Art, History, Construction, and PE.

Halloween raffle

A special Halloween raffle organised by the Tacú Family Resource Centre, has plenty of prizes on offer which include family cinema and bowling passes. Raffle tickets cost €5 and are available in the Tacú Centre and local shops. 

Halloween Bingo

A special Halloween Bingo will take place in the Parish Centre, Ballinrobe, on Tuesday (tonight), October 29, at 8.30pm. There will be special Halloween jackpots on the night and lots of prizes and treats.

Ballinrobe Racquetball Club

Ballinrobe Racquetball Club hosts sessions for both ladies and gents in the Lakeside Sport and Fitness Centre, Station Road, Ballinrobe. The ladies racquetball session takes place every Thursday night, at 7pm, whilst racquetball for men takes place every Monday night, at 8pm. Both courts in the centre are available. These weekly games of racquetball are a great way of having fun, meeting new people and keeping fit. The games are suitable for all levels. Mayo Says No to Racism Group

The Mayo Says No to Racism Group will hold a three hour workshop on ‘Understanding Hate and Division in our Communities and how to build an inclusive response’ in the Tacú Centre, Ballinrobe, on Tuesday, November 5, from 10am to 1pm. There will be a meet and greet on the day at 9.30am for tea/coffee. The workshop is limited to 40 participants. Well done to Ballinrobe Town’s Theo Bellanger, Ben Place and Sean Hughes on their selection for the Mayo U18 Inter-League squad for their upcoming games against the Galway and District League. The aforementioned trio of players had a fantastic season with the Ballinrobe Town U18 league winning team, and they also were integral parts of the Junior (A) men’s team on their return to the Super League.

Ballinrobe GAA Club lotto draw

There was no winner of the €25,000 lotto jackpot draw which took place in Art O’Neill’s Bar, on Monday, October 21. The numbers drawn were 1, 7, 18 and 32. David Grimes was a winner of €25.

Ballinrobe Rugby Club

Ballinrobe Rugby Club is currently looking for players to join their junior men’s Second XV team. New players are welcome and no previous experience is need. Those interested in joining are asked to contact Peter McHugh at 087 9358127.

Ballinrobe’s next outing in the Junior One (B) Division will take place next Sunday, November 3, when the Black and White face a tricky away assignment against Creggs Second XV. This tie is set to kick-off at 2.30 p.m.

A big thank you to all who contributed to the coffee days held recently in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice. Mary Brett and Mary T Brett thank all who supported their evening in Mayo Abbey which raised €2,200. Islandeady Community Council will be holding a fundraising table quiz on Friday, November 8, in the Halfway from 9pm. Entry is €40 per team of 4.

Islandeady GAA

There was no winner of the Islandeady GAA lotto draw held on October 20. Lucky dip prizewinners were Lorraine Doherty and the McGrath Family. The jackpot in the lotto held on October 27, was €10,600. Well done to Rory Courell, Islandeady on refereeing the Ladies County Final last weekend.

Cheque presentations

Last week Westport Women on Wheels presented cheques for a total of €53,000 to Mayo Rape Crisis and Mayo Hospice. One of the cyclists, parishioner Noreen Coyne, extends thanks to everyone who kindly donated to both of these worthy causes.

November Masses

Nine Masses will be offered during November in Islandeady and Glenisland to remember the dead. The list of names and memorial cards will be placed before the altar. If you would like family and friends included take an envelope (at the church door) next weekend and place the names and an offering for the nine Masses into the baskets with Offertory collection by November 1.

The next Latin Mass will take place at 6pm in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, Knock Shrine on Sunday, November 10. Celebration of Marriage Anniversaries in Tuam Cathedral on Sunday, November 17 at 3pm. Email names to info@tuamparish.com as soon as possible.

Cemetery Prayers

Cemetery prayers will take place in both cemeteries on the following dates irrespective of the weather. All welcome and invited to remember the dead. Cemetery Prayers in Islandeady Cemetery will be held on Sunday, November 3, at 12.15pm and Glenisland on Sunday 10, at 12 noon. People are kindly asked to tidy their graves and remove any dead/decayed wreaths and bring them home to dispose of.
