Well done to the boys of Bunscoil Naomh Bríd agus Pádraig, Lisaniska, Knockmore, who represented their school with distinction at the recent FAI 5s competition in Belleek. The children performed brilliantly in all of their matches and were well supported by school staff and several parents who kindly made time to give their encouragement. The late Gerry Sweeney

All were saddened to learn of the passing of Gerry Sweeney, Currabaggan, Knockmore, which occurred on Thursday last, March 7, in Mayo University Hospital. Gerry was a much loved brother, uncle, neighbour and friend and will be dearly missed in the community. He reposed at McGowan s Funeral Home on the Saturday evening prior to his removal to Christ the King Church, Knockmore. His con-celebrated Mass was celebrated on Sunday morning where large numbers gathered to remember Gerry and pay him their final respects.

In the eulogy at the end of Mass, his sister Martina on behalf of their family recalled many memories of Gerry and his growing up in his native Currabaggan. She spoke of his courage in coping with his illness for the last number of years and of his great fondness for family and his many nephews and nieces. After members of Knockmore GAA formed a Guard of Honour as Gerry began his final journey to his resting place in Ballinahaglish cemetery.

Gerry was son of the late Nora and John and a member of a family of nine, three boys and six girls. He loved the land and his animals and took a great interest in Knockmore football and his nephews involvement with the team.

Pre-deceased by his sister Ann, his parents Nora and John and his sister-in-law Mary Sweeney, he is survived and sadly missed by his brothers John and Noel, his sisters Mary, Helen, Hilary, Teresa and Martina, his many nephews, nieces, cousins, and his many friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
