Knockmore

Annual Harvest Thanksgiving Mass

Despite this year’s rainy season there was an abundance of farm produce on display in both churches in the parish for the Annual Harvest Thanksgiving Masses. Children from Lisaniska NS participated in the choir, readings, etc together with the presentation of gifts which included baskets of fruit and vegetables, a school bell that was used in the former Lisaniska NS dating back to 1824, at the Saturday evening, Vigil Mass in Knockmore Church while Currabaggan NS children participated in the Sunday 11am Mass. A special thank you was extended to the teachers, school children, parents and to all who brought their produce for the Mass and especially to John Lacken who provided sheaves of corn and hay and to all who helped prepare for the Mass and the lovely eats afterwards in the centre. It was a very special occasion for all.

Ardagh

GAA

Although Ardagh footballers have now exited the county junior football championship for another year each and everyone associated with the team and club may justifiably feel proud of their efforts to date in trying to secure that elusive county junior football championship crown. Putting matters into context one must remember that Ardagh is a small rural club nestling in the midst of Mayo GAA club footballing giants Crossmolina Deel Rovers, Ballina Stephenites and Knockmore whose sporting pedigree requires no scrutiny. To use a well worn cliche, "keeping the show on the road", requires selfless dedication of which Ardagh GAA Club members have in abundance. While its support base is not huge by any stretch of the imagination nonetheless, its players, managers, committee and loyal supporters adequately compensate for this by their willingness to ensure that the club maintains and sustains a positive focus year after year. From U-8 to U-18 namely, Ardmoy (an amalgamation with neighbouring Moygownagh GAA Club) to senior status the club survives on volunteerism in the guise of underage coaching, senior coaching, management and community support. All of these are necessary components in keeping a club active and successful. In truth Ardagh GAA players, mentors and committee are the collective embodiment of what is good in the GAA and this is fully evident in the vital role they play in our local community. Equally, they are owed and all other local organisations in Ardagh a huge debt of gratitude. Roll on 2025.
