U14 boys are county champions

There was great excitement in Kiltimagh last Tuesday evening when the victorious U14 players arrived back in town with their families and friends after winning the Division 3 county final when they defeated Burrishoole 2-4 to 0-8 in Josie Munnelly Park, Castlebar.

After the usual drive through the town with horns blaring they were guests of the club at Martinos, Main St where there was plenty of lively talk, fun and celebrations. Congrats to all the players and their management team on bringing the title back to Kiltimagh again.

Poker

Michael Sheridan took the honours in Round 2 of the Summer Poker League in Teach O’Hora on Wednesday night last, beating Nicky Cunnane heads up, Mossie O’Connell was third with Gerry Groarke fourth. The other finalists were, 5 Enda Ruane, 6 Dylan Coleman, 7 Martin Regan, 8 Nuala Nolan, 9 AN Other. Nicky Cunnane is now top of the league table on 47 points followed by Mary McGlynn on 36. The rest of the top twelve is, Michael Sheridan 35, Gerry Groarke 35, Martin Regan 33, Mossie O’Connell 30, Pat Boyle 29, Enda Ruane 27, Nuala Nolan 26, AN Other 21, Tiernan Burke 21, Bart Furtak 20.

The league will run every Wednesday night commencing at 8pm. Entry each night is €20 with one optional re-entry allowed for ninety minutes. €5 from each entry goes towards the prize pool for the league final and the rest is paid out on the night. This is a members’ only league.

The late Bernie Brennan

The death took place recently in the loving care of the Mayo Hospice, Castlebar of Bernadette (Bernie) Brennan nee Prendergast, 1 Chapel Lane, Kiltimagh. Bernie who bore her illness with courage and dignity was a well-known and much loved lady in the local community and news of her death was greeted with a deep sense of sorrow and loss by her many friends and neighbours.

Predeceased by her father Padraig, mother Josie and nephew John, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her two daughters Georgiana and Saoirse and their father Michael, sisters Marian and Angela, brother Brendan, brother-in-law Andy, sister-in-law Regina, nieces Caroline and Ellen, nephews Stephen, Danny and Adam, cousins, relatives and a wide circle of friends.

Bernie reposed at O'Hora's Funeral Home on Wednesday evening May 15, her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday in the Church of the Holy Family, Kiltimagh, followed by burial in Kilkinure cemetery. May she now rest in peace.

St Louis CS graduation

Congratulations to the 100 plus Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied students at St Louis Community School who celebrated their graduation in the school chapel on Thursday evening, May 16. Best wishes to them as they begin their exams tomorrow morning, Wednesday June 5.

KK 50/50

The winner of last week's Kiltimagh Knock United 50/50 jackpot was the Ryan family from Cuililea, Kiltimagh, who won €306. Thanks to everyone who supports the fundraising draw, it’s much appreciated by all at the club.

Gerry is the champion

The final of the Spring Poker league was held in Teach O’Hora recently with 14 players vying for the title of ‘Kiltimagh Poker Champion’ and a share of the €2445 prize money. The winner was Gerry Groarke with Isaac Boyle the runner up. The other prizewinners were 3rdTiernan Burke, 4th Michael Sheridan and 5th Majella Gill. Congratulations to all of them.

Allocation approved

Kiltimagh GAA Club were allocated €2,500 under the Mayo Co Co GMA Scheme. An allocation of €2,000 by Cllr Adrian Forkan and €500 by Cllr Neil Cruise to Kiltimagh GAA has been approved. The club thank both councillors for their generous allocations and wish them the best of luck in the elections this week.

Senior league fixture

Kiltimagh will host Kilcommon in Round 5 of the Mayo senior league next Saturday, June 8. The match is fixed for 7pm in Gilmartin Park.

Summer Camp

The FAI summer camp takes place at Kiltimagh Knock United from July 29 to August 2, from 10am to 1pm each day. Full details and booking are via the FAI at https://bookings.faifootballcamps.ie/s/.

Senior league

With the two teams evenly matched Kiltimagh and Lahardane played out a draw in the county senior football league 2A in Lahardane last Saturday week. The game could have gone either way but in the end both teams were happy enough with the draw.

Kiltimagh Tidy Towns have been allocated €2,000 by the Mayo CoCo under the Claremorris- Swinford Municipal District (GMA) funding. The committee thank Cllr Adrian Forkan €1500 and Cllr Neil Cruise €500 for their generous support of Tidy Towns. Wishing you both the very best in the upcoming election.

Jackpot winners

Congrats to Mickey Mallee, Kiltimagh, who was the winner of the GAA club’s 50/50 held in Teach O’Hora’s on Saturday night May 25 winning a nice prize of €644. The previous week’s winner of a jackpot of €609 was Leah Ivers, Cultrasna, Kiltimagh.

Kick Fit for women

The FAI Cadbury Kick Fit programme for women is a fun and non-competitive recreational social programme for women aged 18 plus - no football experience is necessary. The primary aim is to keep fit and meet new people. It takes place at Kiltimagh Knock United over eight weeks, with one-hour sessions per week at CMS Park, on Mondays, starting next Monday, June 10, from 8 to 9pm. Mayo Roscommon Hospice is looking for volunteers to help with National Sunflower days for Hospice this coming weekend, Friday and Saturday June 7 and 8. U13s girls draw

The Kiltimagh Knock United U13s girls were back in action last week and played their part in an entertaining but tough 2-2 draw away to Snugboro. The KK girls went in at the break 1-0 down, which could have been worse. The second half saw them go 2-1 up but, unfortunately, Snugboro got through for a late equaliser to draw the game.

GAA Cul Camp

The annual Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp for children 6 to 13 years of age will be held in Gilmartin GAA Park, Kiltimagh from Monday, July 15 to Friday, July 19. Each child will receive a Kellogg's GAA jersey, ¼ zip top and backpack at the beginning of the week. Cost is €75 for first child,, €60 for second child and €50 for third and subsequent children.
