Kiltimagh U14 team who has made a good start to the County League with two wins out of two!

New Coffee Shop wins award

Congratulations to Monika, Padraic and all the team at Postbox Coffee in Kiltimagh who were named as Best Cafe in Mayo at the recent Irish Restaurant Awards Connaught Regional Final 2024. The award was announced at a gala evening in the Knockranny House Hotel, Westport, which drew an attendance of over 600 people to celebrate food and hospitality in the west. A record 160,000 nominations were received from the public for the prestigious awards and Postbox Coffee will now be looking forward to the announcement of the Regional and All Ireland winners at the prestigious All Ireland Awards Gala Dinner, which will be held at the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin, in May.

GAA jackpot winner

Congrats to Eileen O’Shea, Pollagh, Kiltimagh, who won the GAA Club’s 50/50 jackpot of €600 at the draw held in The Tavern on Saturday night, March 23.

The late Assumpta Walsh

The death took place recently at St Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin of Assumpta Walsh, Bray, Co Wicklow and formerly of Gortgarve, Kiltimagh. News of her death was greeted with a deep sense of sadness in the community where she was well known and liked. Assumpta was a lovely, kind and warm hearted lady, always so friendly, and who loved a chat and a laugh. She came back to Kiltimagh regularly where she enjoyed meeting up with her old friends and neighbours. Her kindness and her warm smile will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her over the years.

Predeceased by her parents Brian and Annie B, her sister Cora Flynn, brothers Tom, Bernard and Jim, Assumpta will be sadly missed by her sister Kate, brother Ambrose, nieces, nephews, neighbours and many friends to whom sympathy is extended.

Service was held at the Church of the Redeemer, Bray, on Thursday evening, March 20, before she was brought back home to Kiltimagh where she reposed at O’Hora’s Funeral Home on Friday evening followed by removal to the Church of the Holy Family. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday after which she was laid to rest in Kilkinure Cemetery. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Poker league

Twenty two players took to the tables for Round 10 of the Kiltimagh Poker League in Teach O’Hora on Wednesday night, creating a prizepool of €450. The winner was Nicky Cunnane who got the better of Keith Lydon heads up with Kieran McGee third and Isaac Burke fourth. The other finalists were, 5 John Reynolds, 6 Martin Regan, 7 John Borza, 8 Mossie O'Connell, 9 Bart Furtak. Isaac Burke has moved back to the top of the league table with 171 points followed by Gerry Groarke on 160 and Pat Boyle on 147. The rest of the top twelve is, Mossie O’Connell 138, Keith Lydon 137, Paul Walsh 126, Bart Furtak 124, Tiernan Burke 123, AN Other 121, Nicky Cunnane 120 and in joint eleventh Michael Sheridan, Michael Higgins and John Borza, all on 117.

The league runs for fifteen weeks with a tournament in Teach O’Hora every Wednesday night at 8pm. Entry is €20 with one optional rebuy and late reg until 9.30pm. €5 from each entry and rebuy goes towards the league final prize pool and the rest is paid out each night.

Meanwhile the monthly €50 tourney will be held in Teach O’Hora on Sunday next, April 7, starting at 4pm. One re entry allowed and late registration for six levels, approx 5.30pm. Entry is for members only.

U14 league

Kiltimagh U14 boys made it two wins from two on their home pitch in the opening rounds of the county league when they had a 7-8 to 3-6 win over Ballaghadereen. Having led 3-6 to 3-2 at half time Kiltimagh had a great second half and ran out easy winners in the end.

50/50 winners

Congratulations to Adam and Darragh Regan, Kiltimagh, winners of last week's Kiltimagh Knock United 50/50 draw. The boys scooped €335. The previous week’s winner was Sinead Mallee from Knock whose lucky ticket, purchased at Centra in Knock, won her €310.

Kiltimagh Bridge Club

The winners of the Kiltimagh Credit Union sponsored competition held on March 19 were announced at the weekly game in the Park Hotel last Tuesday night and presented with their prizes by Mick Dolan, Credit Union.The winners were as follows: 1st Thomas McNicholas and Cait McTigue, joint 2nd Bernie Byrne and Brenda McNicholas, Ray Nally and Mary Colohan, 4th Cora Waldron and Michael Cunningham, 5th Tom Grogan and Marita Ryan, 6th Pat Keary and Betty Solan.

The results from the game last Tuesday night were 1st Thomas McNicholas and Cait McTigue, 2nd Mary Colohan and Ray Nally, 3rd Mick Dolan and Pat Keary, 4th Brenda McNicholas and Bernie Byrne, 5th Betty Solan and John McCrohan, 6th Tony King and Eileen Mulderrig, 7th Geraldine Forde and Jerome Tarpey, 8th Martina O’Hara and Cathy McNamara.

Fantasy Football

With the English Premier League season entering its final stretch, interest is also hotting up in the Kiltimagh Fantasy Football League where it's also very tight at the top of the table. Ciaran Sweeney and Davitt Groarke are joint top on 61 points with Liam Lydon hot on their heels with 60. Aiden Lydon 55 points, Mark Freeman 46, and Conor Henegahn 45, complete the top six.

Rugby U18 squad

Congrats to Paddy Curry, son of Philip and Catherine Curry, on being named on the Ireland U18 rugby squad. Philip, of course, is a Cloonlee native and a past chairman of Kiltimagh Knock United whilst his mother is formerly Catherine Malee from Kiltimagh. Paddy also played minor football for Dublin last year.

Wedding Bells

Congratulations to Ronan Malee, Shanaghy, Bohola and Maria Prendergast, Tourmakeady, who were married in St Mary’s Church, Tourmakeady. The celebrant was Fr John Kenny, Westport. Afterwards family and friends enjoyed a lovely reception in Mount Falcon Hotel, Ballina. Ronan played football with Kiltimagh GAA teams for many years and is also currently a member of the Kiltimagh Knock United senior team. He has now transferred from Kiltimagh GAA club to the Tourmkeady Club.

Ronan and Maria are wished every happiness and good health in their married life by their families, and their many friends around the Tourmakeady and Bohola/Kiltimagh regions.

Card winners

James Walsh and Paddy Carney were the winners of the top prize at the 25 Drive held in the Parish Centre, Kiltimagh, on March 21, second prizewinners were Seamus Larkin and Martin Regan and third prize went to Flor Higgins and Colette Lavelle. Last 10 prize Chris Flatley and Danny Doherty, spot prize Mary and Liam Moran and winners in the raffle were Hilary Foley, Patsy Flatley, Chris Flatley and Tom Walsh.

GAA championship draw

In Group 2 of the Mayo Intermediate C championship draw held in Castlebar last Wednesday night, Kiltimagh has been drawn to meet Castlebar, Hollymount/Carramore and Davitts. Kiltimagh are at home to Hollymount/Carramore in the first round.

Darkness into Light Walk

Kiltimagh GAA have teamed up with Kiltimagh Darkness into Light 2024 in support of Pieta House. Kiltimagh DIL Group are delighted to host its first ever official organised walk on May 11 this year and the GAA club is encouraging all members to get involved.

Event stewards are now being sought so if you are available to steward on the night contact Joe Corry directly on 353 86 807 7209 to lend your support. Walk Registration is now open.

Sister of the late John Duffy (late of Supervalu, Ballaghaderreen) dies

The death took place of Mary Anne Flood (nee Duffy), Balrath Road, Kells, Co. Meath, and formerly of Ballaghaderreen, Co Roscommon, on March 25,peacefully, surrounded by her loving family while in the compassionate care of the wonderful staff at Cavan General Hospital.

Beloved wife and best friend of Seán and wonderful mother to Fiona, Paula, Kate and Maria. Mary Anne was predeceased by her brothers James and John. Mary Anne is sadly missed by her cherished granddaughters Katy, Lucy, Molly and Marianne, her brothers Joe and Padraig, sons-in-law Hamish and Alan, sisters-in-law Anna, Kathleen, Bernie, Bríd and Jackie. Lovingly remembered by all her nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Mary Anne reposed in McEntee's Funeral Home, Kells, on Wednesday, March 27, from 4 to 7pm. Removal took place on Holy Thursday, March 28, arriving to St Colmcille's Church, Kells, for Funeral Liturgy at 11am, followed by interment in St. Colmcille's Cemetery. May Mary Anne rest in peace as deepest sympathy is extended to all who mourn her passing.

Lisacul Drama Group

The Lisacul Drama Group are staging a play by Sam Cree entitled ‘Don’t Tell the Wife’ on Friday, April 5 and April 6 in Lisacul Hall at 8.30pm.

Bereavement Programme at Knock

A 4-week programme on ‘Understanding Grief, a journey towards healing’ will be held in St John’s Welcome Centre from April 4 to 30th at 8pm. It will be presented by Monica Morley. Admission is free but booking is essential. Call 094 9375320.
