Cathal’s epic 2200km trek across mainland Europe has brought him from Canterbury in the UK almost all the way to The Vatican City. Cathal Kelly set off from Canterbury Cathedral on Sunday, June 16 to walk the 2200kms via Francigena Pilgrim Walk across southern England, France, the Swiss Alps and Northern Italy before reaching his destination at The Vatican on Thursday, October 10. Cathal undertook this challenge to raise money for two well deserved Irish charities, Mayo Parkinson’s Association and Children’s Health Foundation, Crumlin. Boosted by constant messages and support from home, Cathal is looking forward to completing his adventure and getting back home to Swinford.

Swinford GAA will be donating their portion of the 50/50 draw on Tuesday, October 8, to Cathal Kelly’s great fundraiser Kelly's Walk 2 Rome. Cathal is due to finish his journey to Rome this week so all donations are greatly appreciated Swinford GAA Club are looking for as many donations as possible for this great cause and the higher the 50/50 pot the higher the prizemoney.
Are you ready to be spooked? On Sunday, October 27, in Wetlands Park (beside Kiltimagh Park Hotel) a Spooky Tots Stroll will take place from 4.30 to 5.30pm. Before all the witches, ghosts and goblins are out under the cover of darkness, all your tots are invited to stroll through the less spooky walk in daylight. Spooks and Scares will all be saved for later in the evening. Spooky Walk from 7pm Tricks and Treats for all. Parking at the Cairn Trade Centre or Bohola Road with pedestrian access. Can you scare the Witches, Zombies and Ghosts with your Halloween Costume. Finish off the evening with the fireworks display at 9pm.
Swinford FC Jungle Challenge has been rescheduled to the later date of March 1, 2025. The club appreciate the huge support so far and look forward to the launch night on November 23.
New Qigong classes for seniors are now available at The Cultural Centre every Wednesday evening from 8 to 9pm. These classes are designed to provide a relaxing and enjoyable experience, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Qigong is a gentle form of exercise that can help improve balance, flexibility, and overall well-being. Classes are offered on a pay-as-you-go basis, with no pressure to commit to a long-term membership.
Killasser Bingo returned to the Turf Shed on Sunday, October 6, and will continue on Sunday, November 3, and Sunday, December 8 with eight houses, snowball house and €500 jackpot house. First house at 8pm.

The 12th Annual Dance Competition for the Tony and Bernie Towey Perpetual Cup will take place in The Brusna Inn on Friday, October 11, commencing at 8.30pm.
The quick step, the old time waltz and the jive will be the order of the night for couples willing to participate. The competition this year will see trophies presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners in each category of dance with one overall winner being presented the Tony and Bernie Towey Perpetual Cup.
There is an additional slow waltz competition for a perpetual trophy, and a jiving competition for young adults 16 years to 30 years. It is anticipated that a large crowd will once again attend and take part in what promises to be a memorable night. Admission is €12 which includes tickets for raffle on the night.
The official opening of Kilkelly Trimoige Community Centre will take place on Sunday, October 13, beginning with Mass and blessing of the new centre at 4pm followed by the official opening. There will be children’s entertainment and music with refreshments afterwards.
Megan Sweeney, Glann, thanks everyone who donated to GoFundMe for her volunteering in Tanzania project. The money raised allowed them to buy essential therapy and educational equipment, stationary, games, food supplies and rent of the building for 2 months and this made a difference to the community of Arusha.
The launch of the 18th edition of the Kilkelly Kilmovee Magazine will take place on October 27, commencing at 7.30pm in Ireland West Airport. The headline act this year is The Piper Cross Ceili Band and local musicians. This is a free event with free parking. A great night is assured with the traditional cake, tea, coffee.
The jackpot of €1,800 on 51 calls was won on Sunday, September 29, by a loyal patron at Kilmovee Bingo.
