Local Notes: Killala siblings qualified for the U21 and U16 Irish Shore Fishing teams and are competing in the SALC Home Nations Competition.

Siblings Billy Gilvarry (18) and Sally Gilvarry (14) from Killala, have qualified for the U21's and U16's Irish Shore fishing teams. They have both travelled this week to Montrose, Scotland where they will compete in the SALC Home Nations Competition on July 3 and 4. Billy, a former pupil of St.Patricks College, Lacken Cross, has previously qualified for the Irish team in 2022 and 2023, fishing both the Home Nations Competition, winning silver on both occasions, and fishing the World Championships in 2023 in The Netherlands where he was placed 17th individually overall. Sally, 2nd year pupil of Gortnor Abbey, is the current U16's All Ireland Shore Champion, having won the Maurice Dalton Cup at the end of 2023. They are both wished the very best of luck....tight lines!

Parish trips

The Crossmolina Parish Trips 2024 / 2025 to Fatima / Lisbon Coast on September 18, is fully booked, and the trip for 2025 is to the Norwegian Fjords Cruise from August 29 to September 6, 2025.

Day of Self-care

Crossmolina were in control throughout of this senior league division 2B in a sunny Achill on Sunday week last. Two first half goals from Niall Coggins set the tone for a comfortable win for the visitors. Stephen Duffy and Dara Syron also raised green flags. The final score was Crossmolina 4-6, Achill 1-5.

Ardagh GAA Club's walkway which skirts alongside both club pitches is a must for anybody who wishes to take a leisurely stroll or light jog. The walkway is situated in a very peaceful, serene and safe environment where people can be assured of total relaxation while there. Special walkway membership is available from the club at the very affordable price of €20 per year or is included in full club membership of €35 per year. Ardmoy's annual Cul Camp, held in association with Kelloggs, takes place in Moygownagh GAA grounds from Monday, July 15 to Friday, July 19 inclusive. Knockmore

The sad passing of two sisters

News of the passing of Rose Keane (nee Martin), Donbeg Rd, Kilrush, Co Clare and Peggy Crotty (nee Martin), Kilbaha, Co Clare last week (sisters of the late Andy Martin, Runagry), was met by a great sense of sadness and loss in the parish. Rose passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, June 18. Her Requiem Mass was celebrated on the Friday morning, while Peggy passed away away on the Thursday morning, June 20, and her Requiem Mass was celebrated on the Saturday morning.

Both will be remembered with great fondness growing up in their native Knockmore and will recall their many return visits there together with their families down the years. Both Peggy and Rose were natives of Runagry, Knockmore, and daughters of the late Peter and Madge Martin, Runagry. Rose was pre-deceased by her husband Martin and is survived by her sons Gary, Martin and Andrew. Peggy is survived by her husband Pat and son Colom. May they both now rest in peace.

Community Centre Lotto

Meals on Wheels

Killala Community Centre are providing a meals on wheels service. They aim to provide a hot, nourishing and quality meal at an affordable price to senior citizens or to anybody in need of it.

The meals can usually be collected at the centre or delivered to your home. They deliver to the KIllala, Lacken, Kilfian and Cooneal areas.

Meals on Wheels Temporary Change

The Community Centre dining room is closed from Friday, June 28, to Monday, July 8. Meals can be collected as normal but those who dine in will have their meals delivered. Normal service will resume on Monday, July 8. To order extra or to cancel meals ring 096 32992 before 10am. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
