A very impressive team performance sees Kilglass Enniscrone Utd U18 team through to the shield semi final after defeating Merville Utd B last week.

Cookery classes for beginners

Eoghan Rua Ladies dinner dance

Join the ladies from Eoghan Rua Ladies Football Club to celebrate their successes of 2024 with a dinner and dancing at the Ocean Sands Hotel, Enniscrone on Bank Holiday, Sunday, March 18. It is going to be a big one with so much to celebrate: Senior champions in 2024 for the 1st time ever; Minor A champions in 2024 for the 1st time ever; and many underage titles. The club is also honouring the Junior Ladies team of 2010 – the first adult team to win a title. Special guest on the night will be Joe Canning, Galway.

Live band is Gorrilla Radio followed by a DJ until late. Everyone is welcome to help the club give these achievements the celebrations they deserve.

Little Puckers new term

A new term of Little Puckers which is a class for boys and girls aged between 1.5 to 5 years with a unique Gaelic Games theme commenced in Easkey Sports Hall for 1.5 to 3.5 years on Saturdays from 10 to 10.40am and for 3.5 to 5.5 years from 10.45 to 11.30am. Activities will include chase games, movement games, introduction to Gaelic games, co operation games and lots of fun. Enniscrone Kilglass Gaelic4Mothers& Others are back

After a few months off, the Enniscrone Kilglass Gaelic4Mothers&Others returned back training last night, Monday, February 24, from 8 to 9pm indoors in the astroturf at Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA grounds. This is suitable for over 25’s and no experience is necessary. New members are welcome and for more information pm the Facebook page or contact Tara Regan.

Eoghan Rua well represented at Sligo LGFA Awards

Eoghan Rua was well represented at the Sligo LGFA awards night which was held in the Clayton Hotel recently. The club congratulate their 5 All Stars – Fiona Feeney, Orna O’Dowd, Louise Lindsay, Sarah Curley and Keeva Flynn. Well done to the four minor panel squad members of 2024 on their success in the All Ireland Minor B Final - Tara Hastings, Keeva Flynn, Saoirse Corcoran and Kathryn Feeney.

Eoghan Rua extend a special congratulations to Sheila Murphy who was presented with a Hall of Fame award for her contribution to ladies football over the last number of years.

West Sligo Athletics Club

West Sligo Athletics Club extend congratulations to Mary O’Meara and Gerladine McKenzie for their outstanding achievements at the Connacht Indoor Championships in Athlone. Mary took 1st place in the Shot Putt, with Geraldine securing 2nd. Mary also claimed 1st place in the Weight for Distance event.

Congratulations also to Rachel Burke who took home two medals in 800m and 1500m. The club are thrilled with the incredible performances on the day.

Defibrillator replaced

The defibrillator at Colaiste Iascaigh has now been replaced with a brand new machine and heated box. Easkey Enhancement Association extend thanks to MFA Consultant Engineers Ballina for sponsorship of the AED; to Kathleen and Nigel James for sponsorship of the heated box, and Marie Munnelly for sponsorship towards new training equipment. They also wish to acknowledge all the time and energy Caroline Wall has given to the project. Training dates will be announced later.

Easkey Meals on Wheels

Easkey Meals on Wheels are severely short staffed and they would welcome voluntary assistance in the Meals on Wheels kitchen and administration office for a few hours in the week. Help deliver a difference and contact 096 49818 or 087 3611300 if you are willing to help.

Enniscrone Show Queen

Have you ever dreamed about representing the Enniscrone and Castleconnor area as the Enniscrone Show Queen? What about taking part and possibly becoming the Sligo Rose of Tralee? Entries are now open for participants who wish to take part in this year’s show queen selection. The selection night will take place on Saturday, March 29, in the Diamond Coast Hotel, Enniscrone, and the event is kindly sponsored by the hotel.

The winner will not only receive the gorgeous tiara, Enniscrone Show title and be entered into the Sligo Rose of Tralee selection Sligo Rose Centre but will also win a generous cash prize of €500 on the night. There is no entry fee.

Enniscrone Show committee ask that you seek a sponsor for you to represent on the day and again there is no fee for that sponsor. The sponsor would simply be there to support you and of course kindly assist you in getting ready with regards to hair/makeup for the event. You will in turn support and promote them/their business.

This is a chance to meet some other amazing ladies from the locality and show how proud you are in your area.

Irish language classes

If you are a complete beginner or just wish to brush up on your Irish language skills, classes are being held in the Ocean Sands Hotel, Enniscrone, with muinteoir Cillian, every Tuesday, evening from 7-8pm. The cost is €2 per class with thanks to Enniscrone and District Community Council and MSLETB. Everyone is welcome.

Wellness

The next wellness session is Breathwork, which will be held on February 27 and March 20; Sound Bath Therapy on March 13 and Shamanic Drum Healing on March 3. For information and registration on any of the above classes contact events@westsligofrc.ie or call 096 37444. The cost is €5 per class.

Sean Nos dancing

Sean Nos dancing will be held in Dromore West Community Centre on Saturdays for adults at 12 noon and children at 12.40pm For more information contact Rachel at 089 4543772.

Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be held in St James’s Church, Easkey on Sunday, March 2, at 12 noon. A rehearsal will be held in the church on Thursday, February 27th at 11am.

Indoor hurling is back

Easkey/St Farbnans Indoor hurling is back on Wednesdays in the old factory from 6 to 6.45pm for U7’s, 6.45 to 7.30pm for the U9’s. Helmets and hurls will be provided for new players. Boys and girls are welcome.

Party Room

The party room at Kilglass Parish Community Centre is booking up fast. The party room can accommodate up to 15 children and they can enjoy connect four, air hockey, karoke and lots more. There are three different options; Room only €100; Room and two party co-ordinators €150 (they will play games with the children, but not supervise them); Gaming parties €180 – 6 children can play Xbox games at one time. Castleconnor Handball Club

Castleconnor Handball Club congratulate Rachel Jones on winning the girls U16A singles Connaught semi-final championship in Fenagh, Co Leitrim last week. Rachel had a very tough and exciting games against Mayo’s Ciara Hallinan, winning the 1st game 21-19, losing the 2nd game 20-21 and winning the tie-breaker 11-9. Rachel played in the Connaught final on Sunday last in Fenagh against Freya Donnellan from Galway.

Another member of the Castleconnor Handball Club was in action last week, with Niall Bourke in the Boys U14s A Connaught Handball Championship against Galway’s Eoghan Cunningham. Niall lost the 1st game 15-4 but battled and played his best handball in the 2nd game, winning it 15-7. In the tie-break Eoghan got the bounce of the ball on a few occasions running out the winner 15-2. Well done to Niall who represented his club and county in style.

GAA lotto

The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on Saturday, February 15, were 9, 24, 32, and 38. There was no jackpot and no match 3 winner. The lucky dip winner of €50 was Paul Reape. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Saturday, February 22, was €10,700.

Executive committee for 2025

Castleconnor GAA club extend thanks to the outgoing executive members Frank Barrett, Ollie McHale and Ciaran Kilcullen for their hard work, time and contribution to the club over the years. They welcome Declan Conlon as secretary, Niall Carolan as assistant treasurer, Grainne Boland as PRO and Adrian Boland who move to the role as treasurer, and they thank the returning members to the executive for their commitment to the club and wish them luck for the year ahead.

GAA Club membership

Castleconnor GAA membership for 2025 is now due for renewal and is available through the ‘Foireann’ central GAA system at https://www.foireann.ie. All players and coaches must be registered members before they train or play. Anyone who wishes to use the club gym must complete their registration and membership to gain access. This is important for insurance and safety purposes to protect members.

The Player Injury Scheme runs from January 1 to December 31. The club look forward to the season ahead and would love to see new and returning players and members join the club.
