Local Notes: Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC Young Player of the Year awarded the Paul McManus Trophy.
Ryan Tuffy, Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC player was presented with the Paul McManus 2024/25 season 'Young Player of the Year Award' by Tom McManus. Also included are Ryan's parents Pamela and Jude.
Each year Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC remember their former youth player Paul McManus, who sadly passed away in 2020, by awarding a Player of the Year award to one of their youth players. The McManus family kindly donated a plaque to the club and at half time of the U13 game versus Dromore Villa, Ryan Tuffy was named 2024/25 season Young Player of the Year. Ryan played on the U15 team last season before signing for Sligo Rovers U14 team. Congratulations are extended to Ryan who becomes the 4th winner of the award.
This year the Coleman Electronics Enniscrone Pier Swim helped raise funds for The UCD Foundation. The money raised is going directly towards Pancreatic Cancer Research. Coleman Electronics are delighted to announce that the total amount raised was €11,100. The funding came directly from swim entries, bucket collections and private donations from businesses across the country, local organisations and individual people.
Mattie Coleman extends a massive thank you to everyone who donated, took part in the swim, volunteered or helped out in any way; to Swim Ireland, sponsors (Coleman Electronics, Call of the Wild, the Wetsuit Company and Trevor Morrow Ltd) and the dedicated support crew (Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club, River Moy Search and Recovery Unit, Moy Canoe Club, and Sligo Civil Defence; and to everyone for making it a memorable and successful event, with amazing funds raised for a very important charity – The UCD Foundation.
Well done to the 5th year girls from Colaiste Iascaigh who graduated with Level 6 in Stem Skills at the STEM Passport presentation of awards ceremony which was held in Knocknarea Arena, ATU, Sligo last week. As part of the Transition Year Programme the girls completed workshops and assignments under the direction and guidance of Hamail, lecturer from ATU, Sligo. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the programme and Colaiste Iascaigh are incredibly proud of their achievements.
A new five week Activator Poles programme commenced on November 4 and will continue each Tuesday from 11am to 12 noon until December 2, at West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone. The Scor na nÓg county final takes place on Sunday, November 16, in Rathcormac Hall, Drumcliffe. This competition gives club members a chance to represent the club in a range of events. It is open to all members up to U17. The following are the competition categories: Solo singing, recitation/storytelling, set dancing, figure dancing, ballad group, music group, novelty act, quiz.

The quiz will take place at 3pm and stage competitions commence at 4pm. Admission is €5. Closing date for entries is Monday, November 10.
The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on November 2, were 16, 25 and 39. There was no jackpot winner and the €25 prizewinners were Conal Duffy, Kieran Conway, Seamus Duffy, and Ryan and Margaret Colleary. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on November 9, was €8800.
Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC are delighted to have installed their new shop at McGowan Park. They aim to have it open during all their games through the winter serving teas, coffees and hot chocolate as well as some treats. Card and cash will be accepted.
The shed was built by local man Stephen O’Dowd and his company ‘Bespoke Outdoor Entertainment Areas’ and it is a fantastically well built unit. Sean Egan Electrical wired in the power and as usual a top job from Sean. The club ask people to keep both these great supporters of the club in mind.

Anything with a plug, batter or cable can be recycled for free – from washing machines and TVs, to mobile phones, toys, tools, cables, and even farm fence batteries and watches. Collection will take place on Saturday, November 15, from 10am to 4pm at Enniscrone Pier Car Park.

The death has taken place of Frank Keane, Castletown, Corballa, Co Sligo on November 4, peacefully in the wonderful care of the Coronary Care Unit at Sligo University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Frank is predeceased by his parents Freddie and Catherine and his brother Seamus. He will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his loving wife Mary, his adored children Kenneth, Declan, Amanda and Ronan, grandchildren Sean, Anna and Emily, mother=in-law Maureen, sons-in-law Shane and Michael and Ronan’s fiancée Emer, his sisters Catherine (Murray), Margaret (Rochford) and Barbara (Gill), his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and many friends.
Frank’s remains arrived at St Joseph’s Church, Castleconnor on Friday, November 7, at 8.30p. and his funeral Mass was held on Saturday morning, November 8 at 11am with burial afterwards in Killanley Cemetery. May Frank’s gentle soul rest in peace.
Castleconnor Community Centre extend their sincere condolences to Frank Keane’s wife Mary, his sons Kenneth, Declan and Ronan, daughter Amanda, his grandchildren, extended family and friends. ‘Frank was a true community man – always ready to lend a helping hand, support local groups, and work tirelessly for the good of Castleconnor. Over the years, he gave his time and energy to many community initiatives and also served with great dedication on the Castleconnor Community Council, including as chairperson’, said a spokesperson for Castleconnor Community Centre. ‘Frank’s commitment, kindness and community spirit made a lasting impact on all who knew him. His hard work and genuine care for others will be remembered with great respect and gratitude by everyone in the parish,’ they concluded.
A new 6 week block of Men on the Move commenced in Castleconnor Community Centre on Tuesday nights from 8-9pm. The cost is €30 (part funded by SSRP). The class is suitable for men over 30 years and suitable for all abilities where you will increase energy levels, take some time for yourself and have the craic. Muddy Burns Bar and Restaurant are celebrating 25 years in business, and on December 22, they are celebrating this special milestone with live music, delicious food and great craic.
Back in 2000, Mark and Majella Carr took over Muddy Burns and have spent the past quarter century turning it into a warm, welcoming place where friends, families and neighbours come together.
Castleconnor GAA Club extend congratulations to everyone involved with the Castleconnor GAA for All programme. Ballina Autism Friendly Town representative Elisha Beattie visited their final session of the year and she was delighted to accredit the club as an Autism Champion and presented them with a sensory box. This was in recognition of all the hard work and commitment the coaches have given, creating an inclusive and welcoming space for everyone.
Some of the coaches have completed As/AM Autism Training while other took part in Disability and Inclusion Training last year with Shane Hayes (Disability and Inclusion Officer) in Sligo Sports and Recreation Partnership.
The club are very thankful to all the coaches who helped out over the last year including Kieran Naughton, Sinead Naughton, Aisling McGuire, Aishling Molloy, Elaine Naughton, Brid Calvey, Michelle Carrabine and Oran Gallagher. Well done to the All Stars who took part each week along with their siblings. The club truly hope you enjoyed the fun and game. The club are also extremely grateful to the parents and guardians who brought the children along, and they are looking forward to seeing them all again in 2026.
