Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC U13c team who defeated Ballygawley with an impressive performance recently.
Well done to the Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC U13C team who travelled to Ballygawley on Saturday, November 2. The weather and pitch conditions were perfect and the full team put in an impressive performance and were rewarded as they came out 4-1 winners. Special thanks were extended to those who made the step up to make up the numbers, to the ref and Ballygawley for the very sporting match. Goals were scored by Matthew Coen (2) and one each by Ross Sheridan and Iarla Fallon.
Enniscrone Tidy Towns were awarded 342 points in the Supervalu Tidy Towns Competition 2024. Results were announced last week with Ballincollig, Co Cork being awarded the overall prize of Ireland’s Tidiest Town. Enniscrone came 5th out of 22 entries submitted from Co Sligo and they were awarded 72 points for Tidiness and Litter Control (2 more than Ballincollig).
The Enniscrone Tidy Towns committee extend thanks to all the Tidy Towns volunteers and the many others who helped throughout the year, especially all of the groups who participated in the Sunday Beach Cleans, and the Big Beach Cleans, to Offshore Coffee, The Ocean Sands Hotel, The Diamond Coast Hotel, Enniscrone Golf Club, Halmac and Checkout for all their support.

Eoghan Rua Ladies walked away from the Connacht Senior Championship semi-final against Westport on Sunday, November 3 last with their heads held very very high. ‘The fight within this group is just incredible’ said a spokesperson for the club. ‘We went into this game absolutely written off by everyone. The Mayo champions would be ‘too strong’ for us.. and to put on that display of football just shows the character within this team’.
The ladies extend thanks to the management team of Shane, Vincent, Marty, Liam and Grace, for their efforts all year.
Two late points from Westport in added time sent them into the Connacht final but not without a hard fought battle. The Eoghan Rua ladies absolutely knocked it out of the park. It is unfortunate to miss out on a spot in the Connacht final but they will be back. The final score was Eoghan Rua 1-11 (14), Westport 2-10 (16).
‘What a year! What a game! What a performance and what a team! The club thank Westport GAA for their hospitality on the day and wish them the best of luck in the Connacht final.

The time of the Vigil Mass in Enniscrone Church has changed to 7pm from Saturday last, November 2, and it will remain at 7pm for the winter months.
Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Club extend commiserations to their U17 team who were defeated in the Connacht GAA Club minor football championship semi-final by Elphin-Ballinameen of Roscommon recently. The full time score was 2-7 to 3-9. However, it was a great achievemtn by the lads as they became the first team from the club to compete at Connacht level. The club thank their management team of Brendan Murray, Declan Rouse, Alan Duffy and Shane Hargadon. They also thanks the team sponsors Centra Enniscrone, Lackan Wind Energy and Inmotech.
Congratulations to clubman Con O’Meara who was joint manager of Coolera/Strandhill who won the senior football championship final replay in Markievicz on Sunday, November 3.
Hard luck to Eoghan Rua Ladies who were narrowly defeated in the Connacht Senior Football Championship semi-final by Westport on Sunday, November 3. It doesn’t diminish from their great achievement of winning their first ever Sligo Senior Title the previous weekend. Congratulations to all involved in securing the silverware.

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto which was held on Sunday, November 3, were 21, 27 and 36. The €25 prizewinners were Anthony Egan, Rian Grimes, Vincent Feeney and Jason McGowan. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Sunday, November 10, in the Ocean Sands Hotel, was €9200.
Western Gaels Hurling and Camogie Club extend their sincere condolences to the Hamrock nee Healy family for the loss of Mary Hamrock, Athleague, Roscommon and Ballygar, Galway. Mary was grandmother of senior player Fergal Ray.

The parish shop in Enniscrone church is open each weekend. On Fridays from 12 noon to 4pm; Saturdays 12 noon to 6pm and other times on request. They have a large range of grave lights, November candles, prayer cards, books, statues etc. People are welcome to call in to browse and all money raised in the shop goes to the church. Lights will be switched on the Christmas Tree of Remembrance at Kilglass Parish Community Centre on Saturday, November 30, at 7pm. All are invited to come along to the event of remembrance and celebration which will begin with Mass at 7pm in Kilglass Church, honouring the memory of loved ones and offering prayers for the community’s intentions.
Afterwards, there is a gathering at Kilglass Hub for a festive community evening, where Canon George will officially switch on the Kilglass Christmas Lights. Congratulations to Neil Rafter and Eoghan Durkan, both Castleconnor and Leaving Cert 2024 students of St Muredach’s College, Ballina, who were awarded the 2024 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) Birrane Bursary, which provided €3500 for each year at university over the course of three years.
‘We are incredibly grateful to the Birrane Family for their support of our students as part of Martin Birrane’s legacy. In particular, his wife Susan and children Liz, James, Bridget and Amanda, who have been a tremendous support to our school’, said a spokesperson for St Muredach’s College.
Martin Birrane (19 August 1935 – 9 June 2018) was an Irish businessman and former racing driver. He was born in Ballina, Co Mayo, and educated at St Muredach’s College. Martin achieved remarkable success in property development with his company, Peer Group, which enabled him to make a lasting impact through his generous support of education and community initiatives. He was the owner of Mondello Park Racetrack in Co Kildare and he competed ten times as a driver in the Le Mans 24 hours, winning the GT class in 1985. In 1990, he set the then Irish land speed record of 176 mph (283 km/h) on the then unopened Westlink, now known as the M50, in Dublin.
Martin owned Team Ireland, a NASCAR Winston Cup Series car racing team from 1991 to 1992. He was the owner of racing car manufacturer Lola Cars from 1997 until 2012 and his legacy will continue to live on through the students of St Muredachs College.
St Muredachs extend a huge amount of gratitude to Martin’s family for continuing to assess the applications on an annual basis.
Neil Rafter is currently studying Engineering at University of Limerick and Eoghan is studying Science at UCD. They are both wished the very best for the years ahead and St Muredachs look forward to welcoming them back again.
Congratulations has been extended to Keeva Flynn, who has been voted Sligo Rovers Women ‘Young Player of the Year’ by her teammates. Keeva has had an outstanding campaign this season and has been a crucial part of their defense.
