6th year students from Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, with Guidance Counsellor Mr Dunne, were delighted to see that 89% of the Class of 2025 progressed to third level colleges in Ireland.

A top feeder school in Sligo

The 6th year students at Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone were delighted last week as they read the Feeder Schools supplement in the Irish Times with their guidance counsellor and discovered that an outstanding 89% of the Class of 2025 progressed to third level colleges in Ireland. This figure does not include the many students who have successfully secured apprenticeships, employment and PLC courses, making their achievements every more impressive.

The school are immensely proud of every one of their students and wish them every happiness and success in their chosen paths. The principal extended a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated staff, supportive parents and the wonderful school community for continually encouraging the students to work hard, believe in themselves and fulfil their dreams.

Handball champions

Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone congratulate their handball champions – Cian Corcoran, Rory McHale and Calvin Foody who won the Sligo Colleges Handball competition after outstanding performances and now go forward to the Connaught finals later this month.

In the singles competition Cian Corcoran defeated Eoghan Commins, St Mary’s, Ballisodare 15-7, 15-0. Cian then followed up with another excellent win, defeating Bobby Cavanagh 15-13m 15-1, and now advances as Colleges A singles winner.

In the doubles Calvin Foody and Rory McHale defeated Jake Scanlon and Eoghan Watters, Ballymote 15-1, 15-1.

Best of luck to Cian, Rory, Calvin and Adam O’Connor (TY) in the Connaught finals later this month.

Clothes collection

Killeenduff NS is now accepting donation of old clothes, fabrics, textiles, old shoes for the month of January. All donations to be made in black bags before January 30 during school hours.

Healthy Clubs Challenge

The Irish Life Healthy Clubs Challenge is now live and Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Club are seeking your support. This is a fun competition between GAA clubs across Connacht and Ireland. Simply follow the instructions by downloading the app, register your club as Enniscrone/Kilglass and track any walks/runs you might do over the next month.

All distance covered helps the club reach their target and be in contention to win prizes in February. It is a good way to track your activity and keep the fitness up.

Blotto

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on Sunday, January 11, were 1, 13, and 24. There was no jackpot winner and the €25 prizewinners were Anthony Egan, Siobhan Kilcullen, Joe Queenan and Eoghan McGuinness. The jackpot in the latest draw held on Sunday, January 18, in Gilroy’s Bar, was €10,600.

Gentle Yoga Flow

Gentle Yoga Flow returned on Wednesday, January 14, to West Sligo Family Resource Centre at 7.30pm and will continue on Wednesdays from 7-8pm, costing €8 per class. For more information email events@westsligofrc.ie or call 096 37444.

Mama Mia Papa Mia

Get ready for a dazzling transformation as Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, is transformed into a Taverna in Spain. The transition year cast of 2025/26 are all set to take to the stage with the original musical ‘Mama Mia, Papa Mia, with all the well known music of Abba. The show marks the first event in the school calendar to celebrate 85 years of Jesus and Mary education in Enniscrone. Principal Ruth Hamilton praises the show as a testament to the incredible dedication and hard work of the transition year students.

‘Transition year in Jesus and Mary is all about teamwork and these students have really worked as a team from building and painting the set to accessing props and costumes effectively building on the success of last year’s production’. Ruth added that this is the first in a series of events to mark the foundation of the school which started in 1941.

This show is a whirlwind of laughter, music, and talent. So grab your tickets and join the cast at Jesus and Mary Secondary School for an unforgettable performance on January 28 and 29. Tickets costing €15 (adults) are available online and on the door.

Bingo

Enniscrone Bingo 2026 has a jackpot of €550 plus a free blue pool sheet, more cash and raffle prizes. There are free teas and coffees, so come along to Enniscrone Old Church on Tuesday nights with eyes down at 8pm. All are welcome, if you’re local or visiting.

SafeTALK training

SafeTALK (Suicide alertness for everyone) training where people will learn the four basic steps to recognise when people have thoughts of suicide and to connect them to suicide first aid resources, will take place on Wednesday, March 25, from 10am to 1.30pm in the Clayton Hotel, Clarion Road, Sligo. This training is for anyone over the age of 18, it is not suitable for anyone bereaved by suicide within 12 months. Training is free of charge. Booking is essential via darlene@breakingthrough.org.

Dementia Awareness Workshop

A Dementia Awareness workshop will be held in West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone, on Wednesday, February 18, at 11am, 1pm and 3.30pm. Dementia is not simply a health issue but a social issue that requires a community response. A dementia inclusive community is one in which people living with dementia, their families and carers can live their lives well in an understanding and supportive society. By participating in one of the Dementia Awareness Workshops, this will give people an insight into how organisations, sporting clubs, businesses or individuals can help to build a Dementia inclusive community in their area. The Eoghan Rua Ladies football club will hold their annual dinner dance on March 14, where they will celebrate their 2 in a row senior champions and underage achievements.

Collection envelopes for 2026

The boxes of collection envelopes for 2026 for the parish of Kilglass will be distributed to households. If you would like to receive a box of collection envelopes and a box of Church Building Fund envelopes contact Fr Gerry. It is hoped to paint the church outside and inside this coming year, re plaster and dry line the wall around the window in the choir gallery, and to do some work on the sacristy roof where water is coming in also. All works completed to date are paid for.

Bereavement Support Group

The weekly bereavement support group has resumed at Knock Shrine on Wednesday mornings at 11am in the Family Centre. This meeting provides an opportunity for those who have lost a loved one to meet others who are bereaved and to share and talk about their experience of loss as well as finding hope and healing again in their lives. Drama time in Castleconnor

Castleconnor Drama Club have selected their springplay for 2026. They will be bringing a three act comedy to the stage in Castleconnor Community Centre on March 13, 14 and 15. There will be plenty of shenanigans, mistaken identities, fraud, love triangles and a hearse for good measure. ‘Second Confession’ by Paddy Heffernan is a show you will want to see, so stick it in the diary now.

GAA lotto

The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on January 10 were 10, 13, 14 and 15. There was no jackpot and no match 3 winners. The €50 lucky dip winner was Ken Gallagher. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on January 17, was €15,400.

Castleconnor Handball Club

In the 2nd level colleges handball competition held at Collooney Handball Club on January 9, Cian Corcoran, Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, defeated Eoghan Commins, St Mary’s, Ballisodare in the singles competition 15-7, 15-8. Cian went on to defeat Bobby Cavanagh, Coola, 15-13, 15-1, and now advances as Colleges A singles winner in the Connacht final. Castleconnor GAA Lights Up returns

Castleconnor GAA Lights Up is back and will run every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7-8pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and bring a friend and join in whether it is a walk or a jog. It’s a great way to exercise in a safe, well-lit space, especially during the long winter evenings.

The Lights Up ties in with Ireland Lights Up and the Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Every Step Counts Challenge 2026, running from January 7 to February 11. The club are delighted to be taking part in the challenge. The aim is to make exercise more accessible during dark winter nights while bringing communities together in a healthy social way. Castleconnor GAA is aiming to complete 4000kms as a club to be in with a chance to win €2500 for the club.

Awards night

Castleconnor GAA Awards and presentation night will take place on Saturday, January 24, in Muddy Burns at 9pm. All are welcome to come along and enjoy a night celebrating the club.
