Well done to Mia, Lilly, Lauren, Ruby and Rebecca all members of Eoghan Rua Ladies GAA who represented Sligo and progressed to the final stages of the skills challenge which was run over 10 weeks.

County Skills Challenge

Eoghan Rua Ladies GAA were well represented in Sligo last week as five of their girls progressed to the final stages of the skills challenge ran by Liam Og Gormely over the last 10 weeks. The challenge encouraged 8-13 year olds to get out and practice their skills at home. The girls thoroughly enjoyed it and put in a great effort. Well done to all who participated, especially to Mia, Lilly, Lauren, Ruby and Rebecca who all put up a good fight in a very tough and competitive final last week.

The late Conor James Burke

The death took place suddenly on June 30 last of Conor James Burke, Sea View, Carrowhubbock South, Enniscrone and formerly of Tubbercurry (aged 18) leaving behind heartbroken parents Brendan and Karen and his beloved sisters Lauren, Eva-Mae, Mollie, Bethany and Amelia who all adored him.

He will be deeply missed by his grandparents Robin, Valerie and Breege, aunties Eileen, Attracta and Breege, uncles Nigel and Dennis, cousins, godparents and his extended family and by all his wide circle of friends from all over. Conor will be at rest with his grandad Joe and uncle Noel.

Conor reposed at his residence on Sunday, July 13, from 3 to 7pm and also on Monday, July 14, from 3 to 7pm. His funeral arrived to The Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Enniscrone, on Tuesday, July 15 for Requiem Mass at 11am and was followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass, Enniscrone. May Conor rest in peace.

Sympathy

All at Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone were saddened at the news of the passing of Conor Burke, a much-loved student in their school community. ‘Conor was a truly special young man; bright, thoughtful and full of ambition. He had a remarkable entrepreneurial spirit and a natural ability to inspire those around him. Whether he was launching a new idea or lifting someone’s spirits with his positivity, Conor left a lasting impression on everyone he met’, said a spokesperson for the school.

‘He will be remembered not only for his talents and drive, but for his kindness, generosity, and the warmth he brought into our lives. Our hearts go out to Conor’s family, friends and all who are feeling the weight of this loss. As a school we are working to support our students during this incredibly difficult time and we will continue to honour Conor’s memory in the days ahead. Rest in peace Conor.’ 

The late PJ McGuinness

The death took place of PJ (Peter John) McGuinness, Townalaughta, Culleens, peacefully on July 14, at Sligo University Hospital. He was predeceased by his loving parents Patrick and Mary and he will be greatly missed by his brother Joe (Josie), sisters Bridie and Mary, brother-in-law Frank, nephew Anthony, nieces Imelda, Maura, and Janette, grandnephew Frankie, grandnieces Cecelia and Bri, relatives and many friends.

PJ reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Thursday evening, July 17 from 7.30 to 8.30pm and his funeral arrived at the Church of the Holy Family, Kilglass on Friday, July 18, at 12 noon for requiem Mass and the funeral proceeded to St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilgass for burial afterwards.

May he rest in peace.

Best of luck is also extended to Lorna who is through to Leinster Fleadh with the senior band Gleann na Bearu who competed last weekend.

Congratulations Paddy

Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, extend congratulations and a massive well done to Leaving Certificate student and local showjumper Paddy Reape on a phenomenal achievement at the FEI Jumping European Championships in Riesenbeck. Representing Ireland with pride, Paddy played a key role in the Irish junior team’s gold medal victory, finishing in style with a superb team score of 6.99.

Blotto

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs weekly blotto held on Sunday, July 13, were 12, 14 and 25. There was no jackpot winner and the €25 prizewinners were Nicole Fahey, Kathleen Conway, Lillian McDonald and Eugene Sweeney. The jackpot for the draw which was held in the Ocean Sands Hotel on Sunday, July 20, was €5600.

New role for Ollie

Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC extend Ollie McHale their best wishes as he takes up a new role in the Sligo Leitrim Youth League committee. Ollie, along with Gareth McDaid and Mike Burrows will form a sub committee in charge of league fixtures. Ollie has been a coach for many years at KEUFC and previously was a member of the clubs executive committee. All three men are wished the best of luck in their new roles.

Eoghan Rua Ladies lotto

The numbers drawn in the weekly Eoghan Rua Ladies lotto which was held on Sunday, July 13, was 2, 7, 16 and 38. Consolation winners of €30 were Michael A Rafter, Margaret Jones, Mary Boland, Sean Conway and Denis O’Brien. The jackpot in the latest draw which took place on Sunday, July 20, was€8100.

Social Dancing

Social dancing is held every Friday night at the Old Church, Enniscrone with dancing from 9-11pm. Get the dancing shoes ready as Brendan McGee and Eugene Cunningham will provide the music on Friday, July 25. Admission is €10 and there will be refreshments, door prizes, good company, great music and fantastic dancing.

Open Water Swimming

The Swim Ireland open water swimming programme for Enniscrone Pier continues for children from July 28-August 1. To book https://app.joinin.online/ and for more information email participation@swimireland.ie. The classes are 45 minutes and are for levels 1-4.

The Black Pig Festival

The Black Pig Festival will take place in Enniscrone from July 24 to 28 with lots of music, art, comedy, theatre, fun fair, fireworks and lots more with something to suit everyone. Alzheimers Inclusive Social Club

The Alzheimers Inclusive Social Club will meet in Skreen/Dromard Community Centre on Wednesday, July 30, from 2.30 to 4.30pm and it is free and open to those looking for a calm, supportive environment for a relaxed tea and chat. GAA lotto

The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on Saturday, July 12, was 2, 3, 8 and 26. There was no jackpot winner but congratulations go to Brendan Kilgannon who matched 3 numbers and won €100, and to Mark Reape who was the lucky dip winner of €50. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Saturday, July 19, was €12,800.

National Grandparents Pilgrimage

The National Grandparents Pilgrimage to Knock takes place on Sunday, July 27, celebrating the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. Anointing of the Sick will take place at 2.30pm in the Basilica followed by Mass at 3pm and Rosary procession. The celebrant will be Archbishop Francis Duffy.

Castleconnor Foroige Club

Foroige, Ireland’s leading youth organisation is looking for passionate and positive adults to help run local volunteer-led youth clubs.

Castleconnor Foroige Club is a community based club for young people supported by adult volunteers. They offer a fun and inclusive environment where young people can gather safely, voice opinions, demonstrate leadership and engage in their communities and take part in a wide range of fun activities.

Cul Camps

A great week was held by all at Castleconnor GAA Cul Camps where over 116 children has a ball with a week full of fun, football and friends. A massive thank you is extended to all the coaches who worked hard with the children on new skills and fun games; to Pat and all at Sligo GAA, Sligo GAA Coaching and Games for co-ordinating, and to the ever present coaching officer at Castleconnor GAA Bernie, who is always on hand to help out. The glorious weather and sunshine was an added bonus and made for an enjoyable week.
