The Ballinrobe Tidy Towns Group will hold an open night on Wednesday, August 26, at 8pm in the Parish House (behind St. Mary’s Church). This night will be a great opportunity for people who would like to become involved in the Tidy Towns group. Those who attend will find out about the projects that the Ballinrobe Tidy Towns Group are currently working on. The group is always looking for volunteers and there are various roles such as litter picking, supporting fundraising events, or helping behind the scenes with administration. There is a place for everyone in the group.

The official launch of the 2026 Ballinrobe Agricultural Show will take place on Thursday, August 13, in O’Malley’s Bar, Glebe Street, at 8pm. All are welcome to attend.
This year’s Ballinrobe Agricultural Show will take place on Sunday, September 6, at Ballinrobe Racecourse. Classes include horses, ponies, dressage, showjumping, cattle, sheep, dog shows, fowl, farm and garden, flowers, cookery, homecraft, tug of war, kids’ section, and trade stands.
The show committee is also seeking volunteers to help out on the show day. There are plenty of ways to get involved – from helping with car parking and traffic management to stewarding across the many show sections. If you are new to the Ballinrobe area and want to meet new people and get involved in one of the biggest days of the year in Ballinrobe, then the Agricultural Show Committee would love to hear from you. Cunga Cycling Club’s sportive leisure cycle scheduled to have taken place last Sunday, August 9, was cancelled.
On Monday, August 3, a nine-goal thriller unfolded in the Helen Johnson U18 Division One encounter between Ballinrobe Town and Ballyglass at The Green, with the Robesiders prevailing in the end on a 5-4 scoreline.
Ballinrobe did the early pressing and the hosts raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first 21 minutes courtesy of a brace of goals from Nathan Dooley. As expected, Ballyglass bounced back and the visitors scored a penalty on 40 minutes, before levelling matters on 41 minutes. However, just before the break, the in-form Dooley registered his incredible first half hat-trick and the red and white led 3-2 during the half-time musings.
The second half was keenly contested, with both sides full of endeavour, nevertheless, two quick-fire goals from Ballyglass shunted the guests into a slender 4-3 lead and the visitors seemed destined for the spoils. But this electric south Mayo derby continued to ebb and flow, and Ballinrobe’s Dooley acquired his fourth goal of the joust on 86 minutes, before Sam Place netted a dramatic injury-time winner for the Town.
The victory saw Ballinrobe remain in second spot in the league table and level on points with top of the table Killala, with just goal difference separating the respective title contenders.
Ballinrobe were set to meet Killala yesterday evening away from home with vital league points up for grabs in what is becoming an intriguing title race.
The Tacú Family Resource Centre’s office and general computer area is currently closed and will reopen on Tuesday, August 18.

The Neale GAA Club is looking for volunteers to help out with a clean-up of their club grounds at Cong. The clean-up will take place on Wednesday, August 12, at 7pm. Those volunteering are asked to bring brushes and shovels to help with the tidy up.

The National Museum of Ireland is delighted to present this exhibition that is suitable for visitors of all ages this summer whore are sure to enjoy the Soap Box car from the 1950s which has just gone on public display for the first time on Level B of the exhibition galleries. The Soap Box car was built by a local boy Joseph Moran from Westport and raced at a national derby in 1956.
